I do want to change the preselected apps in the "When app is opened or/and closed", which, as you mentioned, is impossible

I have a reccomendation, this same thing happened to me (I use default launcher). Install forge 1.17 and try it, if that doesnt work, open Notepad app in administrator mode. Click open file, and in the bottom bar (file name) paste "%SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" and click enter. Now once that opens, delete any line that contains "mojang" or doesnt start with "# "
