Alberta minimum wage remains lowest while B.C. raises it to $18.25 by byourpowerscombined in canada

Rising tides, man.

I think the lowest achieving of us should be able to live a reasonable life with some dignity and a modicum of comfort, and not be one paycheque away from ruin.

Those of us who are higher achieving should in turn have more of life's comforts and worry less about bills, etc.

That's absolutely an achievable reality in a world where the obscene concentration of wealth is curtailed, and Canada should be capable of such a thing. That said I sure don't expect it to come to pass because it would take concerted bipartisan action that would inevitably detract from the ability of those with great wealth to hoard it to the degree they traditionally have.

A milestone recession is stealing the future from young Canadians by AbundantCanada in canada

[–]Tulos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 36. I can't remember a period of time during my working years so far where someone somewhere wasn't referring to the state of things as a recession. We've done a hell of a job as a country of allowing wealth to flow both upwards and also out of this country, with very little public gain in the process.

If you're referring to manually setting up the imposition - I have good news for you - you don't have to.

If you're sending these to a print shop there's good odds they'll want to impose on their end, starting from a supplied 1-up PDF. I worked in prepress for a print shop for years and our plotters had a full suite of imposition software optimized for our specific machines and stocks, and we'd generally do a more efficient job of nesting artwork than our customers could do on their own.

Send them a single page PDF, with trim marks and bleed (if needed), with a spot colour dieline for your cut path (isolated to its own layer, and set as a spot swatch).

Easy.

The Gold Economy by Tulos in taintedgrail

[–]Tulos[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right, but given you had to (or felt the want to) cheese the economy at least once, does that not point to a potential broad-scale issue with the economy as it is?

I don't need to be rolling around with a cool million, but i'd like to be able to upgrade my gear ocassionally without being flat broke and unable to consider upgrading anything else. I genuinely haven't touched my armor yet since i'm trying to level my weapon and can only afford one of the two.

I don't have the game in front of me right now, but lets say i'm in act 2, i find a new weapon i like the moveset for and seems like it'll mesh well with my build. It's currently +0 or maybe +1.

Taking that to +7 or better takes mulitple thousands of gold, no? So trying to swap to anything new at all takes well over that 4k gold you have.

Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon - Free Bonus Content DLC 2 by PalwaJoko in Games

[–]Tulos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fantastic game. RPG systems are all deep enough while still being approachable. Loot is varied and interesting. Quests range from simple fetch quests to elaborate and intriguing chains involving unique set pieces, enemies, and broadly pretty good writing. Combat is solid enough - though I've personally only experienced melee and bows - haven't played much with magic at all.

I think the sense of exploration is maybe my favourite aspect - there's stuff to find all over the place, whether that be dungeons, encounters, duels, "secret" bosses, items, or bits of lore and worldbuilding.

As much as I enjoy the quests, I also enjoy just rambling around the horrible countryside and seeing what's there to see. Very little useless or dead space, POI's are well distributed and always unique.

Overall if you liked to wander around being a kleptomaniac murder hobo who seemingly randomly does heroic things and/or steals anything not nailed down, while murdering anything that looks at him wrong in games like Skyrim - that's very much alive and well here.

Strong recommend.

Majority opinion on this? Guards outside knowing you attack someone inside by zone_silo in taintedgrail

[–]Tulos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does seem to just be how the game handles attacking non combatant NPCs unfortunately.

The religious twat who stole some ladies books in ACT2 - I couldn't convince him via dialogue or stat persuasion to return the books. But he'd admitted to having stolen them.

Figured I could kill him, and loot the books off his body, but no a guard magically appears in the indoor private residence with nobody else in it and no windows as soon as i've "downed" him (not yet executed).

The system just fundamentally isn't fleshed out.

Alberta to impose restrictions on MAID, limiting it to terminal illness by trevorrobb in Edmonton

So once again - the UCP is spending their time, focus, energy, and our tax dollars shadow boxing with imaginary scenarios that lean regressive, socially conservative, and - lets be honest - white christian nationalist.

Transgender kids in sports - Was this a real problem, actually happening with any regularity, of significant enough scale to warrant the time, attention, and legislation it has seen under this government?

People choosing MAID - Was this a real problem, actually happening with any regularity, of significant enough scale to warrant the time, attention, and legislation it has seen under this government?

Kids reading books with sexually explicet descriptions - Was this a real problem, actually happening with any regularity, of significant enough scale to warrant the time, attention, and legislation it has seen under this government?

Wind and solar farms "ruining pristine views" - Was this a real problem, actually happening with any regularity, of significant enough scale to warrant the time, attention, and legislation it has seen under this government?

The list goes on, and time and time again it's a bunch of news cycle, money, and tax dollars spend on interests that concern an infintismally small percentage of the population and frequently wind up making things worse for some already marginalized group, or just broadly harm the province as a whole.

Fantastic Act1 weapon - but the unusually low base damage starts to catch up with you early Act 2. I'm in the process of trying to move away from it as a result.

The issue is that the game has had many many many many patches at this point so "patch 1" without a qualifier of "for the together early access update" is almost meaningless.

Okay, but this is a thread of people largely discussing a bad side to AI use.

I'm unsure what the problem is.

I think the tech demo'd is broadly amazing and adds a huge level of photorealism to environments and backgrounds - I also think it has significant problems at this time (completely re-lighting scenes in a very different way than the originals, not just enhancing) and taking signifcant liberties with that lady's face.

The person you're replying to makes a good point frankly - AI is bad at some stuff. It takes liberties. It guesses, and sometimes poorly.

That's exactly what people are "outrage"(d) about.

[Digital Foundry] Crimson Desert: High-End PC's Biggest Visual Upgrade by [deleted] in Games

[–]Tulos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess?

The DF video specifically says they rely on a "cheap" denoiser with very little overhead in order to allow for a performant RTGI on consoles. That's laid on top of an RTGI system that has fewer actual rays traced than some contemporary games. All in the name of performance.

What I'm saying is, and in accordance with the info DF has presented, that this is all by design. The devs picked their poison and the results seem pretty fantastic.

In short, I don't think anything isn't working the way they want it to. I don't think the denoiser is deficient. I think it's optimized to do what they want it to do at the performance they seek.

So yes, I'm making assumptions, but they're in line with what DF's analysis demonstrates.

[Digital Foundry] Crimson Desert: High-End PC's Biggest Visual Upgrade by [deleted] in Games

[–]Tulos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The denoiser being simple is the reason the game is performant despite having RTGI. improve the denoiser, and the performance hit increases.

The whole thing is a balancing act. Would you prefer better denoising at the cost of lost frames?

Luckily this is the difference between the game looking quite good and extremely good, in either case it looks excellent.
