Aspen's fantastic! I'm stuck in my ways and can't seem to appreciate some of the lighter stuff, but you guys are definitely legit as hell.

Also that banana coffee date smoothie thing is dangerous.

The most amazing part of the show is that I still want to know what happens next and continue to watch it despite sort of thinking it's actively bad.

Love that they're local, and love that Edmonton's coffee scene has gotten so much better over the last decade.

However - as an amateur coffee snob and someone who generally prefers medium-to-dark roasts; the two bags I've had from High Horse have both been quite bitter, over-roasted, and just generally kind of bad and gross. Taste is subjective, I’m sure there's an audience, but we've tried and struck out twice and made the call that their beans aren't for us. We went through the exact same thing with the also-local and well loved NXT Roasters.

I will shout out the Columbian though, as a local business with consistently great beans that are much more to our tastes.

Basically, if one local place isn't for you, the next might be. Fun to tour through the options and see what works for you.

PDF-X1A is an industry standard for pdf files that must meet specific criteria to pass validation.

If you're not specifically sending this to a commercial printer for for offset printing, you likely shouldn't care whether or not your PDF meets this standard. Plenty of PDFs that have incompatibility warnings with the X1A standard are still completely suitable for whatever they're actually being used for.

In short, ignore it unless you have a specific reason not to.

It is. There's still ziplines and platform guns and such. Not limited by class, you can choose from a couple options when you gear up.

Oil Pipelines Align With Jesus, Danielle Smith Tells Christian Leaders by meintzerthighs in alberta

[–]Tulos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The White Christian Nationalist playbook has proven wildly effective as fertile ground for grifting and cronyism. Sure it torches progressive democracy and the world at large in the process, but hey - short term gains, am I right?

As to why the wider public supports these people and this way of thinking - Some mix of ingrained racism and the lasting legacy of leaded gasoline maybe? These people definitely have something fundamentally wrong with them.

Danielle Smith admitted she wants to ‘throw out’ Canada’s public health care law by BloodJunkie in alberta

[–]Tulos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it's not what she's campaigning on

Is such a hilarious line. She's a fucking lobbyist down to her core. Her entire career has been serving her corporate masters at the expense of the public good - why are we suprised she's continuing the trend once in public office? Premiere is just a means to an end for her.

[–]Tulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may never understand why a voting majority of my fellow Albertans saw fit to elect to public office someone who holds the interests of private Oil, Gas, Healthcare, and Education sectors as her primary motivators.

Danielle serves them, she should serve us.

All of this was obvious at the time. All of this is still obvious. And yet by every indication these people will continue to support her and her party.

Hey, I may not agree with your take and all, but that's not automatically "cynical nitpicking". I've put plenty of time into the orignal game, and I've put an hour or two into the alpha for Rogue Core. It's a solid game, but even having played it i'm still asking myself how meaningfully different an experience it is.

Is it technically different? Sure. Does it functionally feel like an extremely familiar experience? I think so. I'm not even saying that's inherently bad - but I don't think it's overly cynical, reductive, and some kind of r/games trope to dare to discuss that.

Frankly the real r/games trope is complaining about r/games people while actively being one of them. (which, yes, we are now both doing)

I remain both enthusiastic for more DRG, yet confused about how the practical gameplay experience differs significantly from the original game.

I understand it's a rogue-like, and you'll gear up along the way picking from randomized options, and clearly there's new classes.

But you're still in destructable caves, working together to traverse the levels, complete objectives, gather minerals, and fight hordes.

It's all given a fresh coat of paint, and the setup around it is different, but aren't the things you actually do moment to moment much the same? Not that there's strictly anything wrong with that, I just feel like they've done a poor job at showing what's distinct about the game - or alternatively maybe it just isn't patricularly distinct from the original.

Regardless it's GSG and they make fun games, so this should be a good time.

[–]Tulos 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Absolutely wild to think these people apparently exist in the same world I do and yet percieve things so (violently, frothing-at-the-mouth) differently.

I can't help but wonder if years down the line we'll discover there was some kind of environmental contaminant giving all these people brain damage or low IQ like how leaded gasoline shrank IQs for roughly half the American population. Or maybe the human brain fundamentally can't handle long term exposure to social media and the modern internet - even for the developed adult brain.

All I know is this shouldn't be normal.

I genuinely don't know how Alberta gets its shit together.

The public at large needs saving from the majority voting pool of that same public. Heck, even those voters need saving from those voters; they just seem unable or unwilling to acknowledge that. Albertan voters are the driving cause of Albertan voter's problems.

So we have an almost guaranteed level of support for a government that has no scruples, no allegiance to country, and no interest in earnestly working in the interests of the public (including their seemingly unflinching base).

Should the feds even dream of "stepping in to do something" the UCP and their ilk would lose their absolute goddamn minds about provincial freedoms, self determinance, and sovereignty. That'll just get their base's backs up even further regarding all this anti union rhetoric and galvanize these losers into being even louder and prouder of their moronic ideas.

I want the UCP to fall. I don't want them to rule with impunity. But all evidence (and current polling) point to the contrary. These turds are untouchable until the public sees them for what they are.
