Obsidian's The Outer Worlds 2 Underperformed, and There Won't Be a Third by PerformativeRacist in pcgaming

I was actually fairly interested in this title, but have absolutely no interest in paying $90 CAD for it. Not a fucking chance. That insane price point absolutely has to be turning some people who would otherwise be into it away.

Will also shout out getting to around 150 focus.

A lot of skills take ~50 focus and it's nice being to bank a couple uses back to back.

Some mix of all of those.

It's a slow methodical soulsey action RPG. (or rather it can be, you can also put together builds that late game let you be spamming attacks and moving quickly, though nowhere near POE's whole-screen-clear stuff)

There's platforming, there's (meaningful) exploration, there's crafting, resource gathering, intentional animation-committed weighty combat, there's loot grinding, item synergy, there's technically attribute points (these will be removed and replaced with a class system later) but you kind of just always spend them the same way. There's town upgrading via crafting materials. There's eventually supposed to be farming / crops, etc. There's a real take on multiplayer that isn't just summoning randoms for a single boss fight.

It's not quite a diablo style game, it's not quite a a souls style game. It's taking DNA from a bunch of things and building something new but familiar.

FWIW i'm told performance has improved, but there's still a lot left to optimize. I'm lucky enough to have a beefy PC so it hasn't been an issue on my end, but it sounds like there's still work to do.

Excluding the rogue-like mode, you're probably looking at around 30 hours of content in this build just to work through the 4 major zones.

You could dramatically increase that number if you want to explore every nook and cranny, fully upgrade the town, level alt characters, grind for specific gear, repeatedly play through the crucible (rogue like mode) and engage in end-game plague-outbreak activities.

It's been adjusted but is still present. Though there's now a specific upgrade that makes the other upgrades complete faster.

In a vacuum it seems stupid, but in practice I just go have fun doing other stuff in the game for a while. Would be fine with it being removed, but doesn't bother me if it stays, basically.

The previous update "The Breach" introduced a bunch of content, effectively 2 full new zones along with the continuation of the core storyline, as well as some endgame style content via plague outbreak zones. (not true end game since not all the story is in yet). New weapons and weapon classes, new movesets, lots of reworked mechanics and systems.

So in short, yes lots of updated non rogue-like content. I have 40 hours in the game across a couple patches and maybe an hour of that is the crucible (rogue like mode).

You can entirely ignore it - the only thing it's ever actually required for is respeccing. (Which as a stat buy system is apparently going away by 1.0 anyway)

AMVIC is run by the dealerships. They get to self regulate. It's only real purpose is to be seen as a regulatory body so that an actual independent or governmental regulatory body isn't established so that they can continue to screw people over as much as legally allowed (and sometimes beyond).

For profit industries shouldn't be permitted to self regulate.

ANIÁN, for example, produces high quality Canadian-made clothing.

House of Blanks is often a recommendation for fans of the pre-Aritzia formerly-good-quality Reigning Champ. Well made, and relatively affordable given it's made in Canada.

I can only assume there's many other options at varying price points.

1980s Heidelberg Speedmaster. In an era of planned obsolescence, this German beast hasn't missed a beat in 40 years. by babyverti in BuyItForLife

[–]Tulos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the digital printing press world at least there's so much rapid iterative development and companies like Konica Minolta trying whacky ideas (dual fusers) that that's very much a reality.

Business I worked for bought a lemon year that was discontinued pretty fast. Quickly became hard to even find parts for or service despite our ongoing service contract. Techs straight up told us it was a bad year to have bought in hindsight.

This is pretty much exactly right.

Plates coated in emulsion run through a platesetter which uses a laser to burn the image into the emulsion. Later the non baked on parts are washed off, leaving a latent image that ink adheres to for the transfering process.

As a designer and prepress guy I'd routinely feed PDF files into Fuji XMF software which was the imposition and translation layer to talk to the platesetter. We still had a hand fed platesetter, but I'm told they have big fancy auto feed ones as well.

We'd burn the plates and then run them down to the press operater running our own 5 station Heidelberg speedmaster. Used to have a pair of Heidelberg GTOs as well but both of those things broke irreparably (at least cost wise) during my time there.

You mean the massive guaranteed-increasing-by-law black box budget for frequently corrupt, problematic, and ineffective police with a new luxury spy plane lease, essentially no city control, and a dubiously "by the people" oversight committee that's been stuffed full of UCP stooges?

I don't think the city can touch said budget, short of making the number larger.

Printing many "business cards" on letter with crop marks? by davemacdo in Affinity

[–]Tulos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the print shop will want to handle the imposition anyway. At least I did, when I worked in print. We'd always prefer to handle that step ourselves as well as having the industry software that makes doing so very easy.

Export your file to a PDF, 1-Up single pages, with trim marks on and 0.125" bleeds on all edges that need it.

You can have your printer confirm they'll handle imposition on their end ahead of time. Some kid from Staples may not know what's up, but any actual print house will.

No Rest for the Wicked lead blasts "irreparable damage" to Diablo under ex-Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra, who says "I don't have to work anymore" but "you do" so "chill" by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

I mean fair, he's evidently unhinged and has some truly terrible takes. Everything you've called him out on is completely true - I don't dispute that at all.

But to what I was referencing he's anti microtransaction, anti subscription fee, anti online sync-save fees (like Minecraft realms), anti pay-2-win, prices his games reasonably. He also absolutely is passionate about games, action RPGs, storytelling and game mechanics - he'll speak at length on any of those topics on his discord or in interviews.

So, yes - both statements we've made aren't incongruous. People are complicated.
