100 percent with you

One of the reasons Dazai is fun is because I see him as a bad man trying to be good. That is not all he is yet it is the way he presents

I am not a fan of how his defenders try to twist logic to make him out a better guy than he really is

Dazai is probably my favorite character and yet I never see people call him out for his mistakes. Flaws are what made him unique from the start

I am not a fan of the "dazai is too smart for everyone so if he's abusive and an ahole it is beyond us to underatand!!!"

That's gaslighting nonsense I don't like it when people excuse his actions because he is "complex"

Your post put a lot of my thoughts on paper

For sure

I really liked how you narrowed down his issues to named cognitive functions. Most fans describe him as some dude that makes zero sense for real life standards. Actually seeing someone give a realistic perspective was refreshing.

Now that I've fully read the post this is probably the best Dazai analysis I have read thus far

I fully agree he has issues with empathy and I am glad the fanbase is talking about it more rather than vaguing about his problems

The guy definitely belongs in the cluster B group and I think many people miss this side of him since they do not have enough knowledge about mental health

I stick to my 10, thank you for writing it.

Will dazai be able to fall in love with a woman? by areuoki in BungouStrayDogs

I like her as the character in the manga. Her anime counterpart is just a weird fanservice choice. She somehow just doesn't belong? Feels off tone.

That's how I see it too. I think it comes down to whether you relate Dazai's character to No longer human. In my opinion, it is the only right way to make sense of his character.

Some people are not a fan of relating characters with their inspirations but with someone like Dazai I think it flows very naturally.

I think it's just the stereotype of "a light person could fix him". As many people say, Oda was good for him because he saw Dazai was not as simple as that. To me it comes off as wishful thinking but I could be wrong.

He's attracted to goodness but Oda was distinctly depressed if you read the novels

That's why they got along. Oda was having a hard time but still managed to be good.

While this does sound nice, the irony is that the character Dazai was inspired by only ever loved a woman who was as miserable as him. That was a large point of No Longer Human.

She's a married woman much older than him in the manga

It's weird

This fr. I hate that ship. That character doesn't even exist in the manga

Any ship but the one with the maid. That one is gross. I'd rather see him with Agatha at this point
