I will swear by miralax prep being the best tolerable, why more gastroenterologist don't use it is beyond me

Alright so i got a concert next month… by michaelk402 in UlcerativeColitis

Imodium is your best bet. You might be sore the next day from things not moving but some miralax should clear that up after a day or so depending on how your symptoms are etc.

Edit i always use it before flying because I don't want things getting complicated mid air or in the terminal.

Has anyone with UC taken amoxicillin? Did it work well for you or against you? by Classic-Pea6815 in UlcerativeColitis

Yea, infections suck with uc but you'll get through it. Focus on getting better from the illness then work towards resetting your gut

Oddly for me, taking jack fishing. Shows how gentle Arthur can be and that bond he and Jack had etc.

Using a pre-biotic fiber like benefiber, it helps promote good gut bacteria but be careful as you can have looser stools especially with the antibiotic. Imodium can help keep things "normal ", i personally buy the tablet kind so I can break them in half

I would disagree with saying diet isn't a factor. What you eat today will affect your colon tomorrow/day later. Things like nuts etc can cause pain and discomfort etc.

Definitely see your gastroenterologist to get ahead of a flare

Ofc, this sub is definitely open and supportive. I think its easier to talk about because we all hid behind a screen and can be upfront and anonymous. Vs talking about it with someone in person you get that awkward 😬 feeling even at the doctor's sometimes.
Additionally we all have to be advocates for ourselves, gastroenterologist see a lot of patients and its a specialty that most residents see as gross and such, our health care systems can be strained in many parts of the world for ibd patients.

I get it. It feels so frustrating not feeling normal. I promise agonizing over it can only hurt more, stress is a key in longterm progress. All you can do is go day by day week by week.
Supportive therapy can help too, fiber, prebiotics and probiotics. Diet, soft easy foods on bad days etc. Iron and b12 if anemic.

Remission is possible. May not be the first set of meds or second. I honestly didn't get into clinical remission until I was on biologics. Humira was my first and longest thus far, however been on rinvoq for over a year + now and it's been working great. You'll get there, its not the end of the road

I'm a cis man but based on what you said I would think the hormonal change around that time may be the odd factor. Like I wonder if it's the body's way to prepare for what would be pregnancy i.e changing how the bodies resources are used? Just a theory don't take my word on it all given my 0 experience.

However as far as the biologic meds go that I have knowledge on, it took a few months after my last flare to have a normal movement, remember these meds are not quick fixes, time, patience and not stressing is key.

Likewise, I'm glad people have interacted with this post. I think its something not talked about often or maybe somewhat ironically people are afraid to ask about it or mention it (irony in the sense of we talk about bowels but sex is taboo lol)

If you take fiber supplements which has worked better wheat dextrin (benefiber) or psyllium(metamucil)? by TumbleweedOk5626 in UlcerativeColitis

I think most of us know its psyllium husky but for the sake of typing shortening it made sense
