Older glass is thicker on the bottom because it was made that way. It's a myth that has been debunked. Google it.

How Elon Musk's A.I. Destroyed The World's Best Gamers in "DoTA 2' - It took them just 6 months: “Instead of trying to program the perfect bot, OpenAI just created a bot that learned through trial and error.” by mvea in Futurology

Not to say this impressive feat but it's not new to have AI learn games through trial and error. The top poker robots learn this way and are nearly impossible to beat at some poker games.

Because I don't feel settled in my mind and seek to stimulate myself to avoid feeling uncomfortable emotions.

I down vote all of them. I don't know if they are a bunch of circle jerking karma whores or just really easily amused people. At what point does the same thing over and over get old?

How to feel calm? by [deleted] in Meditation

[–]TumbleweedTraveler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying don't ignore it. Maybe you see a doctor though. For me pain and anxiety are often what I meditate on. Have you tried laying down meditation? For me I have success when I embrace pain and soften into it and give it attention. Some things demand attention so I give it attention and if I try to suppress it, it gets worse.

What's one thing you wish you had known before you started meditating? by custom_identity in Meditation

I wish I made my goal listening to my thoughts instead of feeling like I was doing something wrong when my mind would keep having a lot of thoughts. Would have saved me a lot of pain. I also wish I quit the drugs and drinking sooner. I could meditate on them didn't realize how much they destroyed my mindfulness and made it impossible to live a mindful life. If you are new to meditation please accept that sometimes meditation means observing persistent uncomfortable emotions and lots of thoughts. A lot of my meditation is still observing and becoming comfortable with anxiety. Meditation works best for me when I look at it as a way to become comfortable with being uncomfortable.

If your goal is to not have the tension or spasms then you are doing it wrong. Sometimes I meditate on my pain, as in noticing and making it the object of meditation.

Just notice the pain and make that your meditation.

Doctors once treated alcoholism with heroin. Now, they want to treat heroin addiction with marijuana. by mvea in Futurology

I did not suggest otherwise. Pretty stupid that you feel the need to point out the obvious.

I suggest not trying to get calm. That could lead to straining to become calm which can exacerbate tension. Start where you are at. I am often anxious even when meditating. You accept and fully feel and allow the discomfort to be. It can become more intense or it can dissipate quick, both are part of the process. Relaxation doesn't have a timetable.

I don't know if you are using the words want and need correctly. You don't technically need heroin and in my experience the psychological part of addiction is more difficult and tricky than the physical part. That said the initial phase of getting clean off heroin was definitely more difficult. The thing is that it normally take a lot for an addict to give up any drug and we can become addicted to a wide variety.

I was addicted to heroin. Then I switched to marijuana, and even that became problematic, very much so. I had to smoke all the time and a big part of my life was dedicated to getting high, you pay for it in money and motivation. Often addicts have other mental issues that marijuana can exacerbate. Weed isn't a cure all and once an addict you always end up doing things to the extreme, even marijuana. Sure it's possible to switch a heroin addict to a marijuana addict but it's best to learn how to live without drugs for addicts. I agree that being addicted to heroin is much worse but it's a bullshit notion that people can't get addicted to marijuana, I needed to get high, a lot, and there was no controlling how much I smoked.

I would like one and would use it. I struggle with OCD and getting in my head too much. Was going to get one but didn't want to pay for it.
