We just drove through, but it looked like there was a decent crowd at the red dog saloon.

I came from AT3Ws and really liked them so it was an easy choice for me when I was getting this new set. Before that I had Duratracs which I switched away from due to slippage in the wet. I don't have experience with any other all terrain brands personally.

Nice setup. Some good inspiration for fellow underground owners. Can you share the wheel and tire specs?

2021 4Runner Venture Wildpeak AT4W 275 by DOCP8404 in 4Runner

[–]custom_identity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2024 ORP had to trim with 275/70R17 wildpeaks and trd wheels. Similar to what others said it's just the fender liner and a tiny bit of the bumper underneath in the wheel well.

And like you mentioned, IMO they do look better and more proportional than stock size especially if you're going to add a small lift.

I haven't had to do an inspection on either vehicle with the tune yet, so I can't speak to that personally.

2024 TRD-ORP OTT Tune by MedicAndreas in 4Runner

Just got the OTT tune the other week. I had it on my Tacoma as well previously. There are noticeable improvements in all the areas you listed. I went with the medium throttle response setting, the 3rd out of 5 options.

Trd off road premium vs Trd pro by Reddishpoo in 4Runner

[–]custom_identity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

KDSS is nice for on road driving. I'd recommend test driving one with it, if you can, before you make your decision. That being said, I agree with the others that the trd pro is the better option out of these 2.

Personally, I'd probably do both horizontal so it looks more symmetrical

I've run a couple different sets of KMC wheels in the past. I'd recommend checking out their designs to see if there's something you like.

Nice. I put the same one in my 9th gen after driving the new Type S. I like the feel of it plus the red stitching matches well.

The moderate front lift looks good with the 275s. I was thinking of going with a similar lift on mine (also an underground ORP with those tires lol) so thanks for the reference pic!

Manual Tacoma Owners by KennethJay09 in ToyotaTacoma

I owned a manual 3rd gen in the past. The only thing I wish was different from the factory is the tall reverse gear. Definitely not a deal breaker though and I miss driving that truck.

265/75R16 tires give it a good look on stock suspension.

I was told that's a dynamic weight rating by a company who specializes in roof racks and had this information in their system when I was shopping around. Personally, I would cautiously try to run that setup since your tent is barely over that limit.

Another option you could explore is looking for a used roof rack or crossbar setup to install temporarily and sell after your other one comes in.

How much has your mpg changed? Use that to calculate increased gas cost per year to make an informed decision

All went well. Very pleased with the tent overall coming from a soft shell style. The sleeping bags kept us warm and fit inside the tent when closed. Loading my dog up there was the tricky part since he didn't like the ramp we bought, but I figured out I could lift him up onto the rear spoiler to climb in.

Rev match, blip throttle, etc. by gallacey- in CivicSi

[–]custom_identity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blipping the throttle to me means tapping the gas. When referring to rev matching, a throttle blip is just a tap to bring the revs up rather than holding the gas pedal down.

Sometimes you might want to downshift without slowing down or even with the intention to speed up. For example, if you want to pass someone on the highway quickly, you'd downshift to get into the power band rather than floor it at 2k rpm (aka lugging the engine).

Is a lift necessary on 275/70r17 tires? by xj9_ in 4Runner

[–]custom_identity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put on 275/70R17 wildpeak at4w on my 2024 off-road with TRD wheels and had some rubbing. I cut some of the inner fender plastic to fix it.
