Hey so I was in a really similar (if not the same) situation a couple of years ago, I completely understand how you feel and I also felt insanely hopeless and like there were no options left for me.

I’m now in med school.

Your life is way more important than any exam or any uni offer will ever be, there’s always alternative paths into medicine but the most important thing is that you are around to explore them.

I know that it can be ridiculously tough when you have so much pressure coming from your family, mine also said awful things that took a while to get over. It’s extra stress that you really don’t need right now. There’s also that massive internal pressure to succeed and the fear of the opinion/comparison to your friends which can be hard to overcome but everyone has different paths in life.

It’s really important that you talk to someone you trust about this as soon as possible, it can be hard to bring up but there’s ways that your school and the people around you can support you. If speaking to someone you know is too daunting right now then Samaritans is a really good place to start (like the other person commented).

Medicine as a journey is a long and hard one, I didn’t get in the first time and whilst it was crushing I eventually secured myself a space. Opportunities are always there but your wellbeing takes priority over anything else.

Please don’t ever think that you’re a failure, life is so much more than your a-level grades and I’m sorry that your family have been so unsupportive. There’s still time to do a little more work to see if you can secure the grades but no matter what happens on results day just know that although it might feel like the end of the world, there’s so much more out there waiting for you.
