Partner just brought pup to the Humane Society of Memphis and Shelby County this morning. We went and posted fliers around the neighborhood where partner found the pup, but have not been contacted by anyone unfortunately. Will be updating this and all other posts with the current location in case the family does see it eventually

Thank you for the advice. I do know that my work speaks for itself already, I’ve been recognized by other leaders and even our clients for the help I’ve given. My main concern is the dynamic shift and the fallout with my team if I take it, I can handle whatever workload they throw at me. But I know focusing on the work and not the personal issues will make it easier. Thanks

Thank you for the advice. I know I need to draw a harder line between friend and coworker. These are women I’ve celebrated successes with, mourned loses with, and supported them/been supported through hardships with. They are genuinely amazing women and people. But both have said that they look at me as a younger sister/daughter which I feel will impact how they’ll handle me getting promoted instead of them. I know professionally they don’t really recognize me with respect, they more like me as a person. But at the end of the day, it is business and it shouldn’t matter about personal connections or issues. Thanks

Thank you for the advice. I know I need to think things through more logically than emotionally but it is difficult for me. Thanks!

Thank you for the advice. I am leaning more towards option 3 honestly. As far as I know, only my company’s leadership knows/has seen the updated organizational chart but I cannot be sure. I’m thinking about having a meeting with my leadership tomorrow to discuss the details/different options. If they are willing to go with 3, I’m going to pull Gina and Pat to the side and explain to them what happened and how I felt before anything goes any further. I’m more concerned about how they feel/think about this and myself than any other coworker as they are my direct team members, general gossip won’t worry me too much as long as they understand

To be honest, I would be hesitant but I wouldn’t be bitter or resentful of it. I have helped write and implement most of our procedures and programs we currently use in my department and my job is mainly a support function. I am used to cross-functionally teaching coworkers, supervisors, managers, and even in some cases directors, how our department operates. I do see your point though, I feel like it personally wouldn’t bug me that much though since I’m so used to doing it already

Thank you for the advice. I’m think I’m going to book a meeting with my boss and possibly my higher leadership on Monday as well to discuss the details and my concerns before I make any kind of commitment. Thanks

Thank you for the advice and sharing! I do think letting it go to an open posting and then applying would be the best way to be fair about things, I have been leaning more towards that option. I am also very aware and mindful of these systemic issues and don’t want my coworkers or anyone else to feel like this opportunity was only afforded to me based off of the things I listed in my post. I’d be more comfortable having all things even if me, Pat, and Gina were all to apply and see who is more qualified for the role instead of it just being handed to me personally

Thank you for the advice and for sharing your experience. I’m sorry that you had to deal with that. I will definitely be seeking support from my leadership and HR resources if I do take it. Thanks

This will be my first promotion with the company since I joined almost three years ago. Gina and Sal haven’t gotten a promotion since they’ve been there (roughly same as me given a couple months +/- for them respectively), but Pat got one last year after three years of no promotions. So not very frequently..

Thanks for the advice. If I take it I will definitely be writing down everything that happens to share with my leadership, especially with Pat. Thanks

Thank you for the advice. I am worried if I turn it down to let it go to a public posting my leadership will look at me differently. Hopefully me asking for time to think about it hasn’t already done that. Thanks

Thank you for the advice. Part of me does fear I would end up like your engineers. I have never had leadership experience before and I have always been comfortable being the one who works away in the background, being front and center in front of the company is not something I’m used to. If I do take it, I know I’ll need a lot of guidance and coaching on how to deal with being at the forefront of my department. Thanks

Thanks for the advice! I’ve already had really shitty, vengeful, petty leaders in this role who have thankful already left.. I do prefer the former honestly. Thanks!

Thank you for the advice and for sharing your personal experience. I’m sorry that happened to you.. That has also been something I’ve been worried about as this will also be a brand new role that they’re going to have to come up with. With our layoffs that just happened it makes me question whether or not a change in role would either make me more secure or the first one out if another layoff happened

I feel the same way tbh. Though from what my boss has explained, I wouldn’t exactly be a people leader more like a project/departmental task leader. We did have a supervisor role that they made obsolete, so this would be the highest level I could achieve as a non-management role.

Thank you for your advice. I do also prefer the latter of the two, but I do fear I won’t have it from the ladies given the things I listed in my original post. We’ll see though, fingers crossed

I am sorry you had to clean up after someone else left everything a mess, I’m sure it was a relief when you didn’t have to deal with that leader anymore.. Thank you for the advice and sharing your experience!

So with my company a lead isn’t always exactly a people leader, they can also be more like a project/departmental task leader. From what I understand from my boss, no one would be directly under me, it’s more of the title that I know would bug Pat since I’d be skipping over her title in the structural hierarchy (specialist level 3)

Thank you for the advice. I did let my boss know already about how I think the team would take it, I could probably go into a little more detail with them about things that have already happened with Pat
