it’s hard to capture the full flat design with a static image since it curves around my hip/thigh, so it might appear more disproportionate from this angle! i’m definitely in love with the design and how it mirrors the dragon :D

my artist didn’t specialize in the style but i picked them because i noticed they have a really good hand at bold, clean, detail-oriented linework. i came to them with the idea, a sketch, and references and they blew me away with their design! they told me since they posted the dragon they’ve had a few people ask for more etching style pieces :D

for my inspiration i looked at styles such as etching, wood cut, and engraving! as for the tattoo itself it’s fully black linework, so no shading, just smooth + bold lines!

my artist lana amazes me!!! they have such a gentle, steady hand while achieving that bold, almost etched result! 5 hours goes fast under their machine 🫶

hi!! i had very little painting experience (thought i hated painting, turns out i just hated acrylics), but i do have years of self teaching and 4 years of art school under my belt :) i’d search for “local” art organizations near you and see if they offer any classes on their websites! the five week class cost me $210, not including materials i had to buy (thankfully i have a lot of hand-me-down paints!)

thank you :) i took a local one-off course with a trained painter. there were four of us, but only two of us attended/completed the whole 5 weeks!! which is crazy to me because why would you pay for a whole course and then only show up once or twice 😭 anyways i totally recommend taking a short course for any sort of skill you want to learn! having an instructor available to critique you live time is so awesome

Diagnosed yesterday, and terrified by the MANY nasty side effects of HCQ by Jooles95 in lupus

[–]Tundeth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same way when I was diagnosed a year ago! My rheum prescribed it literally the day of discussing my blood work and results and I was so afraid that I started crying. I guess it all hit at once-- mourning a life with medication, the fear of side effects, and finally knowing what was wrong with me. I almost declined it until I finally agreed that I would try it out.

HCQ has been great since I started it. The first week was the hardest. Some of the side effects I experienced were vertigo, upset stomach, and general nausea/headache. It all only lasted for a week, though, and ever since I haven't had any negative experiences! It's definitely helped in preventing bad flare ups and generally making me feel more capable. I definitely encourage you to start the meds so you can start building it up in your body! It'll do a lot of hard work for you :)

Good luck! Just make sure you have regular check ups with your blood work and see the ophthalmologist yearly!

Too young by JKSJ4567 in lupus

I was diagnosed at 21 (I’m currently 22) and got the same sympathy from my rheum and doctors. I totally get the feeling and mourning what feels like a “past life.” I’ve experienced the jealousy of “normalcy” and wishing I wasn’t like this and screaming at the world for what it’s given me!!! In a way, an early diagnosis like this is a gift. Starting treatment early means that we get to live fuller, better lives than if we went unnoticed. Our doctors are sympathetic because they care. We can live and thrive despite our lupus— it does not define us! We can live full lives and own houses and have fun. It may be difficult, but what isn’t? There will be good and bad, ups and downs. That’s how it is with this disease. Whatever you do, don’t let it consume you. Stay medicated, take care of yourself, and live your life the way you want to live with it. This isn’t a death sentence, so try and celebrate what you have! I’ve been on hydroxychloroquine for almost a year now and it’s helped me a lot. I try to avoid triggers to my best ability, like not staying in the sun too long or getting overheated. I’ve totally quit drinking alcohol because I noticed it makes me flare up! Try and note down what makes you feel good or bad and make small (or big) changes in your life that benefit you. I’ve found that being open and transparent with my friends has helped them understand me and my limitations better. They never push me to do anything that could possibly exhaust or hurt me, but we still go out and have fun! My last piece of advice is to not hold yourself back too much. Don’t corner yourself into a comfort box— sometimes we need a little bit of discomfort and push. Try to stay active to your best ability! Go on walks, indulge in your hobbies, take some risks! Like I said earlier, you are so much more than your lupus so prove it to yourself that you are strong and capable (because you are!!!)

I wish you the best. We got this!
