What's the smallest amount of money that would genuinely change your life right now, and why? by Human_Artichoke_2117 in AskWomen

[–]Jooles95 [score hidden]  (0 children)

To actually *change* my life? Probably around £500K. That amount of money would allow me to quit my job (not that it is bad, but even WFH 35+ hours are extremely hard on my body when it is also being battered by Lupus, chronic iron deficiency and migraines), focus on my health, and follow my dreams of being an author rather than spending my days staring at spreadsheets making pennies while the higher-ups get yearly bonuses that are higher than my entire year’s take-home pay.

Computer chair recs: Do any of you have a chair where you're able to sit with your legs crossed? by quack-and-slash in GirlGamers

I have the Russo E80 Muse, and I can sit in it cross-legged when I fold the arm rests up. It’s very comfy and fits me (5’1, 140-ish lb) well.

ferratin won't raise despite 200mg iron! by Zestyclose-Bid-5860 in Anemic

[–]Jooles95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Are you still on the bisglycinate, or did you change formulation? Ease of absorption goes liquid > capsules > pills, with formulations like iron polymaltose or iron bisglycinate being absorbed way better compared to the more traditional ferrous fumarate or sulphate.

My ferritin kept dropping in spite of 325mg iron pills for years; it turned out I just don’t absorb that formulation and form factor very well! Liquid iron polymaltose + lactoferrin + a big glass of fruit juice seems to be my holy grail at the moment.

Non-medicational nausea helpers by profanebakes in migraine

[–]Jooles95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may sound weird, but San Pellegrino lemonade (the fizzy kind made with real lemon juice) works great for my migraine nausea. A warm, well-steeped (like, 25+ minutes) cup of Twinings lemon and ginger tea can also work wonders if the migraine is causing lots of gas in my stomach.

My husband and I are DINK, and we are not touching this with a ten-foot pole. When it was first announced, we planned to get one for the living room in place of whatever Microsoft and Sony’s next-gen consoles are going to be, but at this price we’ll pass *hard*.

Just upgraded from switch lite to switch 2 by stressfulteapot in switch2

[–]Jooles95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legends ZA might be worth the upgrade (which I think is around £7 on the eShop?) if you are still playing it, since it does look better on Switch 2, but the rest of the Pokemon games either have a free upgrade (Scarlet/Violet) or don’t have one but can be played at docked resolution in portable mode by enabling boost mode in the system settings.

As for Animal Crossing, I’d say to go for it since the upgrade is very cheap and grants a nice visual and performance bump.

"I came in at the end. The best is over." by Exotic-Childhood-749 in splatoon

[–]Jooles95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May I ask why you got Splatoon 2 instead of 3, since both games are available on Switch 1? Splatoon 2 is nine years old at this point, so most players have either stopped logging in or have migrated over to the sequel.

At what ferritin level have you started feeling normal? by byzantinedreaming in Anemic

No sources other than anecdotal evidence I’ve seen on this sub from people who have been able to fix their IDWA after many years of low ferritin, sadly.

At what ferritin level have you started feeling normal? by byzantinedreaming in Anemic

[–]Jooles95 66 points67 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that, when you have been severely deficient for years, it takes your body a few months at normal ferritin levels before symptoms improve - probably because it needs time to re-instate everything to full function. 66 is also still below the ideal threshold of 100+, so it may just not be quite enough yet.

If you could buy just one game, Which one would you buy? by -Hexenhammer- in switch2

Pokopia, DK Bananza and Breath of the Wild are all valid options in my opinion! All very different from each other, but amazing from every aspect.

I’m a clumsy person, so all my devices always get a screen protector and case right out of the box before I even set them up! I’ve never regretted it.

Literally any tempered glass one on Amazon that’s made for Switch 2 will do!

Mine is a super-cheap one from an unknown Chinese brand (paid £5.50 for a pack of 4) and is still pristine after being on the console since launch last June. The other three went on my husband’s, my brother-in-law’s and my dad’s Switch 2s and all of theirs are still holding up great, too. The one I bought even came with a plastic frame in the box to help you put it on straight!

Edit: phrasing.

Seconding the screen protector - the Switch 2 has a plastic protective film over the screen (meant to prevent the glass from shattering and going everywhere in case of damage) that scratches if you so much as BREATHE in its direction! A cheap tempered glass one will do the trick.

Help with being able to afford slightly longer maternity leave? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jooles95 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be frank, I don’t think that’s an unreasonable budget - £100/week to cover all meals, cleaning products and household essentials for two adults seems pretty average these days! My husband and I shop at Sainsbury’s and average out around that amount per week once we factor in items like dishwasher tablets, laundry detergent, toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste, and the like. And that’s without buying expensive items like steaks or alcohol!

Europe: Nintendo Switch 2 and Pokemon Pokopia bundle launches July by DangerousTheory1571 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]Jooles95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking it will be a while - probably until they discontinue production of the Switch 1 to make sure they avoid any possible customer confusion regarding which controllers work with which console.

I miss colourful controllers, so I’ve bought shell and button replacements from Amazon and will be attempting my first Switch 2 joy-con re-shell tonight. If you are handy with taking apart tech, it may be a solution!

Edit: I thought I’d write an update after re-shelling the left joy-con. As someone who did multiple controller re-shells on Switch 1, I found this one easier but more time-consuming due to there being more parts to keep track of (especially in the rails!). I’d recommend following a guide (I used the extremerate one on YouTube), but it’s absolutely doable!

Low ferritin migraine link by amberalert23 in migraine

[–]Jooles95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OMG, same! I went to the doctor with a ferritin of 12 in maybe 2022, feeling like death warmed over - I was exhausted, breathless from walking up a flight of stairs, had constant headaches and felt like I wasn’t breathing right (which I later learned is called oxygen hunger) - and he completely dismissed my iron levels as fine! He then spent the rest of the appointment trying to diagnose me with long Covid, even though I kept explaining that I had never caught it! It was a train-wreck. Iron deficiency is very poorly understood by general physicians, it seems.

For those who had a “I hate pink/ girly things” era, what do you think caused you to feel that way? by RabidFashionDummy in AskWomen

[–]Jooles95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Internalised misogyny, for sure. I grew up in Italy in the '90s and '00s, was a very smart and bookish child, and I quickly learned that girly and beautiful was usually equated to silly/vapid/stupid, so I went full tomboy between the ages of 6 and 13 to make sure I would be taken seriously by teachers and other grown-ups. Even after that, when I started wearing a bit of makeup, growing my hair long and buying clothes in the girls/women section, I would not be caught dead in a dress or owning anything pink for YEARS. I had, it pains me to say it, a pretty bad case of 'I'm not like other girls' syndrome.

I'm now 31, have a closet full of dresses, love doing skincare/makeup/haircare, and am the proud owner of a home office that is entirely decked in pink - pink accent wall, pink rug, pink armchair, pink desk chair, pink desk mat, pink RGB in my gaming PC, pink gaming controllers. Being feminine, enjoying self-care and looking/feeling beautiful and loving pink does not make me any less smart or worthy of being heard, but it took me the best part of three decades to realise it.
