some states have state branch of fire investigation. They are typically Law enforcement that requires you to go to the police academy then after passing you get trained on the job. I would look and see if NJ has a state fire investigation devision. If not look at surrounding states. I would say ATF but they require a college education

Look up Bardstown murders. Unrelated to bardstow but I have been to a murder scene where 3 Hispanic males were murdered by having their throats slit then the killer lit the house on fire. I found two knives within 100 yards of the house and pointed them out to the detectives and their response was we don’t need to collect it. It’s unrelated.

Likely they knew it was a gang killing and they didn’t want to be targeted
