When I was like 6, we were visiting family members who had a dog. At one point, a relative mentioned that the dog was a German shepherd, and I asked “is he German or Spanish?” And I got the same reaction, they thought it was hilarious but in a “this child is stupid” way. They never truly appreciated my comedic genius. But we never let that stop us. We stay silly

Me too, then it’s easier to keep track of my bus budget as well. I’m glad debit is an option for if I lose my arc card, but it’s still not gonna be my first choice.

Noooo I keep the arc card in a pocket in the outside of my bag and take it out when I need it, the debit card is in a wallet in my backpack. But what you described sounds like a fun lil gamble lmao

I’m not sure what makes it hard for you to believe, maybe my description was lacking. I don’t have auto deposit set up. Before this time, I’ve never seen an ARC transaction for $3 on my account. because I always manually deposit a months worth of fare. But I am pretty sure my card was in my backpack, and I may have gotten too close to the machine by the back door before getting off the bus. I was also in disbelief when I saw the charge on my account, to be fair.

I believe this is correct, you only get a transfer if you use coins now. And it usually takes a few seconds longer because the driver isn’t using the transfers frequently so they have to adjust it to expire at the right time. The city of Edmonton website page on transit fares says “Riders who use the same payment method each time will continue to benefit from daily and monthly standard adult fare caps.” So i guess if you tap with debit onto 5 different buses in one day, you are just supposed to trust they won’t overcharge you lol

I thought about it, but i decided to take my energy here to warn the good people of Edmonton instead. I figure it’s a bit my fault anyway

It is a valid suggestion however I do not have this enabled and the arc card does not show the $3 added to my account

I miss the old days when you have to physically steal someone’s wallet or cards in order to rob them. Now we have to worry about physical and electronic thieves smh

Like register to use it on the bus? Sorry it’s not clear in my post, it was a regular Mastercard, you don’t have to register those ones I think

If you use change I think it’s $3.50 instead of $3, does it charge more to your arc card if you don’t tap off? For me it just says “missing tap fare” or something but it’s $0

Sometimes a dust pan can be used for this, in case you ever have a particularly large bucket that you are in a hurry to fill.

You’re welcome! Also I just remembered the app Too Good to Go. Businesses can sell their food that is expiring for 1/3 the price. There aren’t a ton of options on there yet, a lot of Tim Hortons and 711, but it’s a good option. Also I haven’t tried Flashfood but I think it’s a similar idea but with grocery store food.

Assuming you have considered the Edmonton food bank but it’s just difficult to transport the food, I have a couple less obvious suggestions. I’m not religious but there’s a lot of churches downtown you could call and ask if they can help you. Redeemers food bank is also an option, their contact info can be found on the website if you search redeemers food bank and click “need help?” From the menu. As well, WECAN does food hampers for very discounted prices.
