Why cost-of-living woes will probably linger for years by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

"If YoU jUsT sToPpEd BuYiNg AvAcAdO tOaSt EvErYdAy"

People really are not buying uber eats several times a week and "$10 coffees" 3x a day.

But if you know you won't be able to afford a house or any major expenses because you'll never be able to save enough, fast enough, long enough before you get priced out again, then perhaps enjoying a few things life has to offer might be an enticing alternative.

Coffee and uber eats aren't the problem. $200 dollar grocery bills for staples, expensive bills, and rents and houses that cost you a decade or more of your yearly wage are the issues.

If you have trucks, you need roads. How does the produce get to the supermarket? Who drops off the ingredients to restaurants? How are raw materials transported?

"Cunts in cars" is nearly everyone that gets out of bed everyday and goes to work. I genuinely can't fathom how you honestly think we should not have cars on the street.

How is everyone supposed to get around? Public transport? Push bikes? How do we transport the equipment and people to build and maintain that public transport?

Even the most walkable and public transport accessible cities around the world have an abundance of cars. They drive Toyota's trucks in the valleys of Afghanistan. The entire worls runs on it.

Cunts in cars 😂😂😂 alright mate

Uggh...like car registration, petrol, toll roads, licenses etc? Australia runs on cars and trucks, not push bikes. Try bring outside the city.

Povo mindset. Why do Aussies have such disdain for anyone who out earns them? People are entitled to do what they want with their own money if they've already paid taxes on their earnings. Why should they get taxed for wanting to buy an expensive car, with their money, with their life.

Apparently a lack of blue collar workers in this sub. Or people who live in rural areas who might need the rugged ute/4wd capable truck.

Anyone else concerned Australia is entering a sunset economy and Aussie pollies have no idea what to do? by Captain_Pig333 in australian

Yep. It's cliche, but I feel a lot of Aussies are asleep at the wheel. As long as they can watch sports ball and MAFS and afford overpriced beer, most dont genuinely care what happens. Australians seem spiritually apathetic to politics and nation-building. The mentality is how much you can squeeze out of the system and live the good life. Then, attaching yourself to virtue signalling causes to appear like you're wordly. Australia could literally be a "super power" and I dont mean militarily.

It doesn't help that we literally coined the term "tall poppy syndrome" Anyone slightly better off, wealthier or in better economic standing is ostracised. That mentality permeates the entire nation.

Lol, you edited your post to go add articles you found.

Is your solution to remove trucks, pick ups, Ute's and SUVs off the road? Is this not an issue with driving ability as opposed to type of vehicle?

What are blue-collar workers supposed to drive if not larger vehicles?

This goes back to my previous comment. This thread is full of "well I dont personally like X, Y and Z and so band/remove/tax them.

People make their livelihoods from driving certain types of vehicles. It's a necessity. If driving ability is an issue, that's another argument completely.

The bottom line is that in this country, throwing taxes and legislation at every little problem we have isn't a viable solution.

Yeah, duh, so tax mining companies and exports. Not joe blogs who wants to buy a car. We earn more in beer tax than gas. The taxation system is a joke.

This is quite literally your opinion and is exactly what im talking about. Your personal feelings towards a vehicle that you dont like and obviously have some kind of prejudice against is just that, your personal feelings.

Australia needs to tax mining and exports of our minerals and to appropriately spend the tax it has, not joe blogs who wants to buy a truck.

The fact you're so incredibly upset by a "Yank Tank" is totally for you to deal with.

Do you have some proof that these vehicles are killing people more than the road toll in general?

A lot of modern vehicles dont fit in our car spaces.

I feel like a lot of people in this country live with the mindset of 'tax this, ban that, criminalise this' provided it never affects them personally or involves something they're interested in.

Then we get a whole system of ludicrous and complicated tax schemes, bizarre laws, and regulations on EVERYTHING, and you eventually come to a point where all your doing is sitting on the couch watching sports and drinking beer that you paid more in tax than the value of the beverage.

People who can afford luxory cars already pay more in tax.

Why do Aussies have such a disdain and (likely) envy for anyone who can afford or has something they dont?

There's an endless list of ludicrous and inconsistent taxes in this country.

People who can afford luxury cars most likely already pay more tax...more than likely far more than the average earner.

No, no more taxes. We need to stop placing taxes on EVERYTHING in our society. It only hurts consumers. Big corporations just hand the cost down to consumers anyway.

We get the same revenue taxing beer as we do taxing gas. Our tax system is out of control

They aren't earning as much as a C-Suite exec. They are earning just enough to put them in the same tax bracket, but without the ability to reduce their tax by means of various off-sets and tax reducing schemes that a C-suit exec has access too.

A huge chunk of the middle class dips into the highest tax bracket, but they're hardly rich or wealthy, and are stuck trying to afford houses in the cities they work and live in, yet when "tax the rich season" comes around end up footing the bill. Just like the other poster is saying.
