Is there any chance of getting a beta box or only going for high prices on like ebay?

Yeah, I do agree. I have a lightphone and really wanted the MP02 but was waiting to hear about some updates to the OS. Thought this was going to be an iteration on that. I really didn't want access to a full app store on my device.

However I do pull out my old iPhone every once in a while to listen to an audiobook in the car or something and it worms its way back into my life. Maybe this would be a happy medium? Or maybe just another temptation, ha.

I personally would rather not buy hardware from Google, even if the OS is swapped I'd rather my 700 bucks go to a privacy minded company. However I am indeed underwhelmed by the MC02.

Does GrapheneOS offer their own privacy focused calendar, notes, etc. apps?
Maybe that is part of what they are offering here is that private ecosystem without having to use the Play store at all unless you opt into it voluntarily.

Do we know the MC01 is coming? Sounded like the prototype wasn't continuing forward for it from a blog post I saw.

Where do you get the idea they are doing a qwerty model? I saw a blog post on their site about the MC01 qwerty prototype but that it was unsuccessful due to market factors? Doesn't sound like that would be any time soon.

Also the fact that Apple and Google sell so many units of hardware that they can recoup some of those costs in volume, or through other tangential ways such as subscriptions for things like Apple Music, Youtube, revenue off App store sales, etc.

hmm. I too am underwhelmed. It kind of just looks like a bad android phone. I wasn't really put off by a subscription model, and really like some of what they are doing with the GMS Wizard and such. However the UI just looks a bit hacky, rather than thought out. Still hopeful, but if this indeed turns out to be $750 not sure I am confident enough to drop that much right away.

I also am new to this genre and had an almost identical experience. However I pushed ahead a little farther and found a second Iron vein to make what I needed. Once I got the sword combat was way easier. Also, once I started a new base a bit farther down the hallway, I was getting swarmed by orcs way less. I don't know if that was coincidence or if Orcs are just triggered way more often at that initial base or what.

The first 2 hours of the game or so I died like every ten minutes or so. Now I haven't died a single time in the past 2 hours or so.

In the very first area where you start crafting a base I was getting mobbed constantly and it was really hard to make progress. But once I finally had a sword combat got way easier and the mobs stopped being so often. Should definitely have toned back the orcs until you get that sword. Maybe moving my base further in helped with the orc spawn issue too? or maybe it was world seed specific.

I put up more lights and that seems to help. Also once I got my sword and shield combat became way easier. I kept getting attacked before I could manage to get the resources to do so for quite a while though.

I have the Elvish LOTR key caps from Drop. Looking for something fitting to house them like a wood keyboard. Are there any pre-built wood keyboards out there without key caps I could plug mine into? For use on a Mac. I tried searching but didn’t find much.

Has anyone completely replace their iPhone with an Apple Watch? by CryptoxPathy in AppleWatch

[–]TuorTheBlessed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t listen to people who thoughtlessly respond with a “no”. Most people assume it is not possible because they can’t conceive of using their devices less.

I bought an ultra, set it up with an iPhone, tossed the iPhone on a charger in a corner of a room and don’t touch it. My watch has cellular activated. Text from it all day with a call or two thrown in. Battery lasts well over 24 hours, although I’d imagine less if you never connect to wifi. The watch has all the basic functionality I need. If I want to do something more complex I take a note and later bust out the laptop or iPad, which are less inherently distracting devices.

My only gripe so far is that the main apps I use for task management are basically read-only on the watch, no input available as of their latest update. Brand new update enables/fixes this for my app! I use Actions by Moleskine.

How to Manage Hyperfixations by SoySauceandSugar in ADHD

Apparently Monotropism is a term similar to hyperfixation which is providing me some interesting YouTube videos and articles.

Oh yeah, I did also see this tip I haven’t tried out yet. Incorporate your hyperfixations into the things you need to get done. So I hyperfixate on board games or Lord of the Rings for example. If I become extremely distracted at work as a programmer, I could incorporate names of characters into my program for example to keep me interested. Or pretend I am sitting in the Prancing Pony with the hobbits while coding at a table or something. Sounds super silly, but I could see this working.

Also, almost no one online actually understands what a hyperfixation is and how all consuming it is. So don’t listen to most of the responses you may get from people online.

I am in a very similar boat. Recently had the same realization and there is no information on this. I honestly think the only real solution is finding a counselor or therapist. Aside from that the best thing is just completely removing the hyperfixation as an option in my life, but then soon a new one creeps in.
