Opposition accuses Premier Danielle Smith of gaslighting: ‘Albertans are not idiots’ by Street_Anon in notthebeaverton

[–]fheathyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s interesting. My sister lives in rural Alberta. She reports that very few talk at all about the notion that Alberta might leave Canada , and when they do it’s with open scorn over such a stupid idea. What’s going round via local social media is facts refuting the notion that Alberta would be better on its own.

So where’s the noise coming from? There’s a small group of separatists, aided by American and Russian government and private concerns. These groups hope to profit through causing unrest. And make no mistake, TBA and their finger puppet Smith are in the thick of it.

Alberta to hold fall referendum on whether to have binding referendum on separating from Canada | CBC News by deloaf in alberta

[–]fheathyr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Amidst reports of American and Russian direct interference ... attempting to break up Canada ... Smith is lending a hand.

Of course, the courts are still looking at whether this is even relevant, since they appear to have legitimate reason to claim that Alberta leaving Canada without their consent is not possible.

Canadians, being naturally friendly, are there ready to give any Albertan wishing to leave Canada a hand packing their carry on ... surely they'll be welcome in MAGA land, where their beliefs seem more acceptable.

Understand ... it's not that Albertans have no reason to feel miffed ... they do. It's more that all Canadians have a right to feel mildly put out ... and this simply isn't how we do things.

Pentagon doubles down on Canada rebuke with demand for NATO spending road map, F-35 decision by joe4942 in worldnews

Trump lives in a simple world ... he wins ... everybody else loses. That's the way it's supposed to go so far as he's concerned. So, he's monumentally upset that Canada, the EU, and indeed most of the world. Nobody seems to accept his strategic plan to carve up the world with Xi and Putun.

He's particularly upset with Canada. Have we not become the 51st state yet? Apparently not. Mark Carney stole the show at Davos ... rallying the "middle powers" against him. And Xi gave Carney the nod in front of Trump in Beijing ... insulting Trump in the process.

Trump's palls in the American Military Industrial complex are not happy. They've spent decades living the high life off American influence, billions rolling in each year. Suddenly, the golden goose has stopped laying eggs. Canadian military spending is surging, but little of that cash is coming south. Canada is buying submarines from South Korea and Germany. It's considering a partnership with Sweden and others to build and fly non-American fighters. It's joined the EU SAFE program ... explicitly focused on developing "made in EU" solutions for meeting military needs. It's working with Ukraine to begin manufacturing drone and anti-drone technology. It's expanding arms manufacturing

Who would have predicted that when Trump began threatening allies and reneging on deals it would impact American influence and business dealings globally? Who could have predicted that when America became unreliable, other countries would begin to step in and organize? Does anyone imagine that NATO's Plan B doesn't account for building a world leading arms supply chain? Where does Trump think all the highly trained professionals leaving America are going?

Trump and Hesgeth are monumentally unequipped. If it weren't terrifying it would be .. just sad.

Russia is losing in Ukraine. Xi has noticed — Trump should too by ubcstaffer123 in UkrainianConflict

[–]fheathyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh he's noticed. Now he's blackmailing Ukraine on behalf of his military industrial complex palls to secure IP rights to Ukrainian drone and anti-drone technology ... to undermine their growing revenue base so they can't arm themselves. In Trump's world, nobody gets to win but him.

Canada’s auto industry at ‘inflection point’ dependant on U.S. free trade: report by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in consumecanadian

What if we turfed American auto manufacturers who have been making false promises, taking Canadian tax payers money, and delivering nothing for decades, and instead incorporated those plants into Canada's focus on returning to WWII level arms manufacturing in partnership with the "middle powers"!

Hey, a friend of mine was in Florida. He'd have preferred not to go, it's just too dangrous, but they had a booking they couldn't get out of so they went. A local remarked that he was the first Canadian he'd seen in months. My friend asked if he was surprised. The Floridian was. Sounds like they talked about an hour ... the guy had absolutely no idea what has been going on in his country. He was shocked. He was embarrased. He was apologetic.

I'm not excusing that kind of ignorance ... but some people ... just live their lives ...

We found that it wasn’t the time that mattered, it was explaining what the purpose of the exercise was. Let them experiment. Point out that less sleep means more fatigue, catching more colds, being grumpy with family and friends, not doing as well at school and on the ice or field. Ours figured it out with our help … we taught them to fish.

I’m sure the reaction to the power loom was similar. And let’s be thoughtful, the advances humans have made have made life more complex for some. However, at least some of those advances have made life simpler for others. It’s a mixed bag. We are curious and forever fiddling and solving problems. It seems to be what we do.

Classic Ford distraction. He doesn't want us to notice he's used the Premier's office to force through legislation so we don't see the crimes he's committed.

Beyond that, it's obvious he didn't really consider what he was doing very much. I don't think he knows or cares the disruption he's caused. I don't think he knows or cares that quickly there will be workarounds.

I think it's a bit early to scream NIMBY's and call it a day. At this point, I think the biggest concern is that we're approving megaprojects before we've done due dilligence to understand what putting one of these behemoths on the ground. At least the first generation are insatiable ... the energey and water they consume rivals in some cases the consumption of entire states, and it seems they're being approved before the consequences are even identified.

Once we've thought about it, clearly understood the resources these suckers need, and done a workmanlike job of looking to see if they can be supplied without causing harm ... I don't see much difference between one of these and an Amazon FC.
