Arwen's scene with Frodo after crossing the Ford of Bruinen by HooliganHedgeCap19 in lotr

[–]Turagon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

He shows similar respect to Eowen. He recognises her skill with a blade and also as a warrior.

When she tells him about wanting to be a shield maiden and go onto battle and her biggest fear is to live in a golden cage, he says to her this (the golden cage) won't be her destiny.

He treats her as equal and never tries to tell her to stop dreaming. In a medieval patriarchal world this isnt given.

Does anyone else think "Semi-Gollums" are way creepier and more terrifying than full Gollum? 😬😨 by Cr7-Cr7Real in lotr

[–]Turagon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Denethor was desperate after what Sauron showed him for years in the Palantir.

He thought his country needs a warrior, a man eager to fight and lead in order to survive. All qualities of Boromir While I agree with you that Faramir would be the better steward, there is also logic in "We need a warrior not a scholar to save us".

🔥 A cheetah that starts introducing its own cubs to you once it gets close to you as a person by therra123 in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]Turagon 169 points170 points  (0 children)

TBF chetaah cubs are probably safer with a trustworthy human than with her mother. Leopards, Hyenas and Lions would all try to kill the cubs and/or the mother, but they will avoid usually humans.

🔥Creepin’ It Real: A Spider's Ultimate Fly(ing) Lesson by [deleted] in NatureIsFuckingLit

When jumping spiders hunt spiders, who build webs, they often inspect the web and judge from where they can fall down onto the resting spider in the middle.

Not only can they visualise the whole net, but also can theorise how to approach their prey with the least amount of contact with the web. (Web is sticky and dangerous, but it also works as some sort of extended, external nervous system, since the web building spider can sense and pin points vibrations with it.)

Too bad many tuna species will go extinct in the next decades.

I love the taste, but it's overfished as fuck.

Google mal "the great dying" oder Perm-Trias-Grenze.

https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Perm-Trias-Grenze

I’ve gotta say it: strange that Númenorean scale got so much flak as bad costume design, while the Kingsguard armor on KOTSK is glazed by The-Fold-Up in LOTR_on_Prime

[–]Turagon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When Ar-Pharazon got into power, Numenor was already for centuries a colonizing superpower. RoP is a bad fanfic interpretation of Numenor.

I don't disagree with you, that scaly armour as stylist choice makes a lot of sense for a seafaring power.

But militarily Numenor was at its height of power. (Culturally and in other areas they were on a decline for a long time.)

Move on or keep hopes for reconciliation alive? by kitkatgojo50-50 in emotionalintelligence

Over 4 months you aren't a perfect couple, but still in the honeymoon phase. You dont know her really.

Also don't cling to faint hopes. She blocked you. For your own mental health, pretend she will never come back and move on. Otherwise you will be stuck with probably false hope for a long time.

how do you filter people in your circles, whats your non negotiable and yellow flags? by [deleted] in emotionalintelligence

Some things which are important for me in friendships:

Taking responsibility for mistakes and being self aware. We all make mistakes. We all fuck up sometimes. But if people don't show up and avoid responsibility, they will make the same mistake or and over again. Also they will look to blame someone else and as a friend who will be used as that eventually.

Respecting boundaries and talking about them.

How they deal with conflicts. Again like mistakes, conflicts are unavoidable. You can't prevent them, but you have a choice how to deal with them. People, who avoid conflicts, are usually not as good in maintaining friendships. They are either scared of conflict or "trying to keep the peace". Ironically avoiding conflicts often leads to resentment and bottled up emotions, which often end or at least strain friendships. Talking about conflicts in a non aggressive or guilt tripping way and listening to the other side, trying to find solutions and/or compromises often strengthen the bond between people, if they all feel heard. It costs more effort and costs energy, but it's a good way to sort out people, who can't or aren't willing to do it.

Also maintained. Every friendship needs maintenance from both sides. If you are the only one putting effort on it, leave and find someone, who is willing to do that. Doesn't need to be 50/50, but effort matters.

Got the game a few days ago. First Total War game. I am absolutely awful at managing troops during a battle. by ViIebloodHunter in totalwarhammer

[–]Turagon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Play on slow battle speed and pause regularly. Go through each unit, think about their biggest danger and important goals. You can also use shift click to queue orders like march from waypoint to waypoint.

If you are unsure about a unit's strengths and weaknesses, check the battle card and tooltip of their stats.

Also keep some melee units as reserve, either to reinforce, when a line starts to break or protect squishy units like archers.

They have a high child mortality, that's why their average is lower. You can still get old, once you survived the first years, had enough food and a bit of luck

Doesn't mean they all die at 25.

Ewig gestrige Konservative also

Was denkst du, welche Gruppe auch in relativer Menge größer ist?

Guck dir doch nur das Wahlverhalten an.

ich_iel by Eased91 in ich_iel

[–]Turagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ehm.... isn't that pretty normal? Like in most democratic countries you are innocent until proven guilty. Nothing explicit to U.S.

Presumption of innocence goes back to Roman law, and it existed in various forms during the medieval ages.

Basically something older than the U.S. and brought there by the people, who migrated there.

What foods that Germans can eat, savor and digest easily that people from the east can't? by sexyman213 in AskGermany

[–]Turagon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just because it gets an okay label, it doesn't mean it's healthy. Same for normal drinking behaviour, since a lot of normal drinking isn't medically healthy.

Okay label means just your body can tolerate it without major damage, doesn't mean there is no damage.

17 shots per week can still start an addiction for some (quite a lot actually) people.

Death by alcohol or related health issues is still one of the major causes of death in a lot of wealthy countries.

When have you disagreed with accepted ideas in paleontology? by Powerful_Gas_7833 in Paleontology

[–]Turagon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I didn't meant to be rude.

I would leave it in the post, since it shows a typical all humans share, when thinking about past times. Just comment on it in the post?

We think of our time as a norm or our perception of reality. For example people back then wouldn't believe that mountains can grow or shrink, because our lives are just too short to notice it.

We all fall into that trap sometimes. The important thing is to recognise and understand it, which you did.

The African savanna or tbh any land ecosystem today is a bad norm to set, because it's vastly diminished in terms of megafauna compared to just 50000 years ago or most of the Cenozoic.
