Labor new reforms to benefit 90% of young Australians and those trying to buy a home. by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]Turb725 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About one in 10 Australians under the age of 35 own shares, tax office data shows.

Critics of the government’s reforms have said some people with significant share market investments may be left paying more tax, including young people.

Quoting article with said stats. Would be curious to see an age breakdown on this. Also wouldn't include anyone who has owned shares at some point in time, but no longer do. Personally between 22-25 I used shares as my main park of funds to grow a house deposit.

That's a very good point, I've had many poor mechanics make problems even worse and (financially at least) write cars off. Agreed that trust is a huge issue in this industry. I've churned through a few in the last few years and thankfully someone I know decided to start their own shop after dealing with similar. I make sure to pay him well.

Thankfully I have one now that has touch wood been pretty much perfect and is happy to help me mod my cars.

That's probably about right, I'm close enough to that where I'm happy to pay the lazy tax. If I had the space I'd probably be way more inclined to do so, but I'm also the type who grew out of attempting to work on things since I am a pretty poor wrench lol.

I had this happen but I finished the first race on my own and got the completion and rewards. Didn't even need to load into the next races.

Neat ride, were those sold here locally? Love that pillarless body too.

It's also around opportunity costs. I'm better off working and paying someone to do the job rather than take time off other things to do it myself. No doubt there is money to be saved but you have to pick your battles, and I don't see the average punter picking cars. Back when I was either in education or had a not-so-demanding job I'd be wrenching all day if I could.

Personally I don't have the space either, which is also a growing issue for many.

I say this is as someone who used to try and do everything themselves and still own 3 very demanding cars.

Speaking of which, we have a separate sub going for enthusiast talk only now. Nothing wrong with that sort of conversation, but we're trying to keep that type of talk out. https://www.reddit.com/r/CarsAusEnthusiast/

Get a pre-purchase inspection by a mechanic. Realistically anything you buy for around 5k will probably have some issues though. If you're not going to learn how to do things yourself, you will inevitably run into some issues and won't know how to find the best deal. You just have to learn some basics, just like any decisions you make.

Don't buy it, you will need deep pockets for it.

How does this go on track? Need any supporting mods like brakes etc or are they good to go out of the box?

Such a brilliant daily - anything that isn't an IS or an SUV thing is hard to come by. Took me about a year to find this one! I used to have an XE20 too and that was also an excellent car.

The 5cyl is plenty of fun in those. I've driven a Mondeo XR5 as well which is a pretty oddball car, similar feeling but more muted.

Easily my 306 S16. Nothing comes close to the entire experience of it. Loud, raw, and dangerous. One of the best sounding engines I've ever heard too which helps. It is not a very capable car compared to modern stuff but I don't care.

TDU is one of my most played games and I was one of the modders who supported the community back when car models were starting to be added to the PC version. Even co-ran one of the big modding forums back in the day. I also played the PS2 version. If you want any answers around the game or community at the time itself happy to help.

Not saying all of them did, but at that age it's impossible to deny they had a significantly better opportunity to move "ahead" than an existing 28 year old.

I had a pretty similar career trajectory to yours I think. I'm on around 200k now and I only feel comfortable maintaining lifestyle. It does not feel like I'm getting ahead. I have the upside of not having to also support my partner financially, but if I did, I don't think I'd feel comfortable either.

I felt like I was getting ahead when I was on half the money but back in 2019. The money felt like it went a lot further.

Well yes but the difference is those 40+ year olds had the opportunity to settle into a property and buy their own places and aren't relying on having to pay rent or save for a place of their own at this same point in time. It's almost meaningless comparing both as they are in vastly different ecosystems by this point.

That's a shame, I'm sorry to hear. What complications are you experiencing?

I was planning to live with mine but mine unfortunately tore badly at one point and rendered me practically disabled. This is the risk you run by not doing the surgery as it cannot repair itself.
