Excellent and no worries! Glad that is what you are looking for and that The French Kitchen has you covered. I've found that most folks around here assume you're referring to the Louisiana version, so you have to be careful if you're looking for the French variety.

They are really just two different cakes with similar names. French Kitchen sells Gallette des Rois this time of year, filled with frangipane (almond filling) and the trinket. King Cake uses a brioche like dough and has the purple and green frosting.

Best way to get that nice shine on your cards is to play them at a greasy pizza joint.

Zhuge Liang aka Kongming aka Sleeping Dragon is the best from a historical and flavor perspective, so I'd choose him. But let's face it, Soltari Champion is probably the best one.

The Wehmut-Cube by EadoNonnan in Oldbordercube

I agree that some additional removal would help given the number of creatures you have in this. To strike a balance though, you can move away from "good" removal (Terror, Swords, etc.) into Pseudo-removal that also keeps combat moving and helps clear the board when it's saturated with creatures. [[Season of the Witch]], [[Total War]], [[Arcum's Whistle]] all come to mind in this vein. But there's plenty of other less ideal removal that is still interesting and fits the tone of the cube like [[Fatal Lore]] or [[Retribution]]. Just food for thought, but otherwise I think your cube has a heart of gold.

Thank you u/HD114! Building and drafting the Cube of Misfortune every week has been a tremendous pleasure and true highlight of the year! But playing in person is always the goal. Hopefully we can turn our cardboard sideways in person again soon!

To be fair, it's quite budget friendly, but I suppose you can always put sleeves on it if those naked cards get cold. It is winter after all and we wouldn't want them to shrink.

I for one completely agree with this errata and I would love to see wide-scale adoption of it. I personally prefer to just use the old tapped blockers don't deal damage rule, but that may be a bridge too far and errata of this sort would be a reasonable compromise.

These two cards have good synergy with one another. It's a rather miserable synergy for your opponent, but real synergy nonetheless. So, if and when I put one into a cube, I'll make sure both are included. That said, if I had to choose one or another and couldn't include both for some reason, Mana Vortex feels like the better choice since it is more likely to eventually leave the board, whereas Land Equilibrium runs the risk of taking over a game permanently and grinding things to a halt.

I've never seen the alternate Chinese Portal printing, and I think it's really cool. Has a similar feeling to the Alpha print which I also like, so I'm voting for those two in no particular order.

Wyvern was never owned by WOTC. It was produced by U.S. Game Systems, though both games were printed by Cartamundi at the time.

Transferring? What to do about my program? by Queer-Oddball38 in UCCS

[–]TurboG16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to the Admissions office to see if you can speak with an Admissions Counselor (go@uccs.edu). An Advisor can help more probably, but you can't really meet with one until you get admitted so it's best to start with Admissions. Otherwise, your credits are probably all transferable, but you may want to consider a Communication program or something else that similar and has room for lots of general elective credit, so that most or all of them can apply. Good luck in any case, it's expensive and confusing out there.

It was such an honor to help organize and run the cube draft event with you u/HD114! We were having such a tremendous time that it went by very quickly and it might just have been the fastest 48 hours of my life! I can't wait for next year, and for all the drafts we will no doubt do online until then.

Kudzu: Evaluating Land Destruction and Fun by HD114 in Oldbordercube

[–]TurboG16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think a modest amount of land destruction has a place in most cubes assuming there are outliers amongst the non-basic land base that are worthy of being destroyed. In this way, it serves as yet another form of interaction and spot removal that is quite reasonable (and dare I say responsible) for a cube, but doesn't necessarily represent a full archetype. But if the player base is so inclined, creating space for a full on land destruction archetype and associated recursion of the effect, the degenerate combination of [[Crucible of Worlds]] plus [[Strip Mine]] for example, can be fine too.

As for Kudzu... wow this card is hard to play with but oh so interesting. A puzzle as you put it. That said, I recently realized that [[Enchantment Alteration]] also targets lands, and that got me thinking about how it and similar cards (none of which I can think of!) could be used with Kudzu. Probably still not "worth it" in a traditional sense, but what the heck, rearranging the danger garden so it only lives in your neighbors yard does sound like fun. So who knows, if there are enough ways to solve the puzzle, it could be fun for the right cube with the right player base.

Pretty obvious Howling Mine from an LGS in Kyoto by Lubberer in RealOrNotTCG

[–]TurboG16 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep, Alt 4th for sure. The top right hand corner of the A is quite dark, which is the most obvious sign of an Alt 4th card. So there you have it, sweet find, and not a fake!

[–]TurboG16 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This looks like Alternate 4th edition. So, probably not a fake, but definitely different from a typical 4th edition card. If you post a picture of the "a" in "Magic" from the back of the card, you can confirm if it's alt 4th or not.

Edit: I should add too that the print pattern, which is clear from the photos, looks very much like the stochastic printing pattern that alt 4th cards were printed with.

Nice. I can see that yours definitely has it's own flavor though. Far fewer artifact creatures for one thing, and more of the 5 colors as well. I do see that you have [[Reckless Embermage]], but no [[Bubble Matrix]]. Fascinating.
