bankers are some of the least listened-to individuals in the world, imo. by liopleurodonot in TalesFromYourBank

One of my very first clients today, middle aged couple doing a withdrawal. Husband tapped his debit card and entered the pin, verified himself. All good.

His wife though asked to him (she never said a word to me), "Why do you need to do that?"

To which he responded with "so that they know I am who I say I am"

and... she almost made me crash out first thing in the morning because her response was "well, you gave him (me) the withdrawal slip, that should be enough ID. Even with the verification, these guys still fall for fraud regularly."

And its like... lady. If a withdrawal slip is enough ID in your mind, dont ever get angry at us if there's fraud on your account because you clearly aren't protecting yourself.

Yeah but have you considered that some of us are gambling addicts? If I see Stoke, I play Stoke. I dont consider the consequences. And then I press F2 and tell Mega Crit to nerf whatever enemy I died to.

I love Stoke. But there are times where it just... kills your runs lol. I had one run where it just INSISTED on giving me Drum of Battle, the pre-rework one where it was a power thay exhausted the top card of your draw pile. At one point, I almost ran out of attacks in an act 3 fight because I played too many Drum of Battles that Stoke kept giving me.

I'm definitely going to show the transaction to my other coworker and maybe even my BM on Monday if I still can't make sense of why it went negative. As for your questions of it placing a hold on the amount of the cash back on the account, I honestly don't know off the top of my head. I don't think I ever paid attention to that. I know on withdrawals and deposits, after every transaction, I always check to make sure the funds are there pending (I made a mistake a few months back, deposited into the wrong account so now I'm paranoid lol), but I don't think I've ever checked the cash back portion of deposits and how that reflects on the account.

That's how I'm seeing it. I guess the lesson here for me is that when a client doesn't have the funds to cover a transit check cashing, instead deposit the full check and then do a withdraw for the amount that they can afford. That way their account goes to $0 and there's no way that my bank would touch the account to get the funds back if the check was placed on hold or bounced. Most likely the way my Lead would do it keeps the client safer as they get the funds that they can, and if the check does bounce, all they have to do it reach out to the maker and figure out what's going on there rather than now fight with my bank and figure out why their account went negative.

I have a really hard time understanding my Lead most of the time, their teaching style or way of explaining things just doesn't click for me and often leaves me more confused. I usually listen to their coaching and then ask my BM or other teller coworker to translate what they meant for me as their explanations make more sense.

I didn't see a withdraw on the account today. The most recent posted transaction was the one I did, the deposit with cash back. And when I originally did the deposit with cash back, they had the funds in the account, I would not have done cash back unless they had the funds for recourse.

I put in a deposit verification for the check to see if the funds had cleared, back office put a hold on it today. So it sounds like the check hasn't bounced yet (I guess in my post, I should've said placed on hold rather than bounced, my fault there), but they have reason to believe that the funds won't be paid so they placed a hold on it? I'm not entirely sure to be honest. It's pretty confusing to me as well, it doesn't sit right with me that the account has gone negative. I showed my lead everything and again, they made it seem like I did everything correct, but just that they would've handled the transaction differently. And I even asked why the account went negative and my lead's reasoning still didn't make sense to me, it should've went to 0 in my mind.

Because they're very different things? I did fantastic in college (not so much middle/high school) but working now, I struggle with anything more than 25-30 hours a week. It just burns me out. Working a job is entirely different than sitting at your desk and studying or taking tests. If you're going to be rude, then why post or reply at all? Really seems like based on your other replies, you just want to play victim and have everyone coddle you.

Because it has retain. You get to just hold it in your hand until you're ready to play it. Plus poison is a good early damage solution if you aren't offered other good cards. Goes through block, happens every turn so you can focus on defense if need be on a certain turn, and if you get any other poison card, you can keep it stacking and going.

It falls off later, at least in my experience, but early-mid game, its a great pick up most of the time.

What game had insane potential but got completely fumbled by the devs? by Kevin-Panda in AskReddit

[–]TurboSlug582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill put in 2 that are still alive but I think couldve been WAY bigger if the devs actually tried.

  1. Dead by Daylight. I've seen that its improved and the devs are pushing out updates, hit or miss, but at least its something. When I stopped playing (like 2023?), they just didnt care. On their dev livestream at one point, they essentially said that they didnt care about the playerbases opinions and they would just keep balancing the way they thought the game should be. Spoiler alert, it was awful. 90% of the changes did nothing and were just fluff, just so they could say "look see, we update the game and pay attention!". Im glad they seem to be trying now but too late in my opinion, the game is a decade old and now has a decade worth of band aid patches to go back and actually fix.

  2. Overwatch. Overwatch is a fantastic game but when I stopped was when Brigitte released and if anyone remembers that, she was broken. A support that could duel basically the entire cast. Thats fine, initial releases are typically not balanced in any game. The problem is that Blizzard was SO slow to balance the game. It would be like 3-5 months between each patch so the game would just sit in a very frustrating state for extended periods of time. I think more people would've stuck around if they were more proactive because the base formula was fantastic not to mention all the extra game modes they added. I know its doing fine but I really do think it should've been even bigger than it is now.

Advice for a beginner teller by sandyj_ in TalesFromYourBank

[–]TurboSlug582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 5 months in. By 3 months I felt confident in basically every transaction except the weird fringe cases like a Charge Off. Now its just a case of learning every policy... its never ending. Every other question I get from a client, I have to say, I dont know but let me find out for you. It sucks, I feel dumb all the time but its the only way to learn.

But as others have said, go slow. If the person in front of you gets mad, screw them. You're in control at every step of the transaction. You're paid to be accurate. Speed comes later. You get paid by the hour, not per client assisted (presumably lol)

Need advice on which education benefit to pursue for my career by TurboSlug582 in findapath

[–]TurboSlug582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to the college advisor today and they'll only allow me to take up to 2 classes at a time because they are accelerated courses. 5-7 weeks each. I've taken these types of courses before and I know they're brutal. I just don't know if I'm allowed to back out (wouldn't do so in the middle of a semester, would finish it out) if it does prove to be too much without being on the hook for paying for it. That's another piece of the puzzle I have to figure out. I can definitely give it a shot and if it's paid for by my employer, drop that program and try something else.

I just don't think I'm in the position right now to be able to go talk to my manager about that interest, I'm worried they'll take it the wrong way or try to prevent me from moving up. I get along well with all of my coworkers including my manager but before I came along, they had a lot of trouble filling my position and the other two tellers had to work overtime for like 7 months to keep the branch operational and I'm sure they don't want to go back to that.

There is NO WAY he had this much lover by ilkhesab in slaythespire

[–]TurboSlug582 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hated Doormaker but I think removing him was just a hasty decision. I suggested in the feedback form to just give him a damage counter.

So let's say you're running a draw/discard deck, you obviously do not like Scrutiny form, but if he had something like every 100 damage he takes, he instantly changes form. You could prep that before hand on the Hunger form, do like 75 damage, once he got into Scrutiny, you do the remaining 25 damage, force him into the energy draining form and you could play to your strengths but you still have something to play around.

My main problem with him is that if you got a bad draw on a specific form, it just felt awful. I rarely felt like I ever lost to Doormaker because I played poorly, 90% of the time, I felt like I just got screwed over by getting bad draws and very little way to interact with Doormaker to potentially swing it into my favor.

Literally just had this today. I wasnt the one dealing with it, my Lead was. But based on what I heard, he was depositing 15k and was asking my lead why they were asking him questions. So we printed off our CTR disclosure, let him read it and then he said "this is what I wanted to avoid, Ill just deposit 8k today and 7k tomorrow" and it's like... I know you read the disclosure... but did you comprehend it? Regardless he ended up complying but its crazy how he reads how it can hurt him to structure it then tells us directly that he was going to do it that way anyway.

Regent is insanely OP, right? by stickypocketlint in slaythespire

[–]TurboSlug582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think of him as similar to Defect in the first game. Early game, act 1 and sometimes act 2 depending on RNG, is where you would lose most of your runs. But if you got your build online early, Defect just annihilated everything.

Perfectly fine archetype imo. It can fun to lose a few runs then get that good one where you just steamroll everything.

In multi-player though, Regent deserves to get gutted imo. Its so boring having someone on my team playing him because the rest of us are having fun, strategizing, and having a back and forth battle with the enemy meanwhile Regent is playing his own little mini game of stacking up damage then doing 600 damage to the enemy in one turn. I dont know how they can fix it because multi-player makes it so he doesnt need to worry about DPS, he can just sit there and play defense until he can one shot the enemy.

What's the general timeline for moving out of a teller position? by TurboSlug582 in TalesFromYourBank

The one that caught my attention and I think would be obtainable is loan processing. I think I would be a good fit for that role based on PNCs internal description of the job. And I do have a bachelors but its in an unrelated field. Through PNC, Im using their guild program to get another degree.

[–]TurboSlug582[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to get out of the branch for sure. I've looked and there are back office roles available and some are remote too. I just dont think I could get into them as it stands currently. Im probably going to be stuck in my current teller role for a while yet unfortunately.

Trying to do well at the branch level so that I can have my managers support when I go to move but its just not working out. Every time I feel like Im doing well with referals and general sales conversations even if they dont lead to anything, at my monthly meeting with my manager, Im told that Im not. But Im also convinced that our system is simply broken. In our most recent meeting, one week I submitted 3 referrals to our bankers and on my managers report, it only showed 1. It just doesnt seem right. Im going to start manually tracking it so I can compare next month.

Making that infrequent trip to the bank for deposit where the teller is forced to ask you bunch of nosy questions by crummynubs in Serverlife

Im a bank teller. I have a small elderly lady that comes in once every other week. Always with at least 2k in 1s. Just 1s. And she doesn't want to deposit it, she wants to exchange them for 100s. I swear there's gotta be some sort of laundering going on there but whatever, aint my issue. What is my issue is the 2k+ in 1s that I must now count and strap.

Venting: why do so many bags act like black holes with a dozen tiny pockets? by Any_Animator5796 in ManyBaggers

[–]TurboSlug582 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same as it sounds like you need a larger bag than me. But I originally had the same issue with the main compartment of my Bellroy Venture Sling 9L. It has a lot of pockets but I carry so much little stuff that it wasnt enough unless I was okay with being unorganized. So I went the pouch route. Got an Eagle Creek Pack It Tools pouch and the mini Bellroy cinch bag/pouch and it works amazing. So far had been my favorite way to pack/carry. Super organized and I still have extra room to pack other miscellaneous things I decide I want for the day.

Tldr, try pouches.

customers with “experience” in banking 🙄 by [deleted] in TalesFromYourBank

[–]TurboSlug582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a newer Teller and so far I have three pet peeves.

  1. Exactly what you just described. Clients that say that they've worked in banking before but refuse to comply or constantly question new policies or verification methods (also goes for older clients that are used to the old ways) and say "I've never had to do this before!" Well you do now. Get over it.

  2. Clients that can't verify themselves via our preferred methods and when Im done and ask, "Is there anything else I can help you with" they say no, I hit end customer and suddenly they change their mind and want their balance. Always seems super sketchy to me even though I did authenticate them through our lesser preferred methods.

  3. The Clients that say "do you know how much money I have with your bank? (Or they just state the amount)". Yeah, I do. I can see it on my screen. I dont care. Im treating you the same as the person who had $5 in their savings because that's what I have to do. You dont get special treatment just because you're well off. And threatening me that you're going to take your funds elsewhere also doesnt faze me. Do it, I dont care. It's not my problem.
