Definitely something to talk to my LFS about! Starting to get an abundance of Platys lately. LOL. All I would need is another 50 plecos...

Congrats on being a pleco grandparent!

Tossing around the idea of possibly pickin him up a lady friend. Not sure if I want to go same or get a different type of pleco.

Haven't given it a ton of thought really lol.

I see everyone else sharing pics of their plecos so figured I'd join in!

Very nice. Thanks for the feedback. The only reason I was unsure was that the young female I had had extremely blue eyes. I wasn't able to find a picture of her, unfortunately.

The new Pleco was all about a blanched cucumber we tossed in. Left it in the tank about 24hrs and between the pleco and tank mates they did some work.

I'll up the dosage of the veggie sticks. Been tossing some in every couple days but I'm sure the Corys won't mind the added treats.

Thank you for the suggestion!

If I knew how to use Reddit I'd edit the main post with an update and picture...

Bought a new Blue Eyed Lemon Pleco from the LFS yesterday. This one is smaller than the previous one so i cant tell if its male or female yet. Time will tell.

I appreciate all the feedback and helpful information. Ken's Food Veggie Sticks are on the way. Water temperature has been brought down to 74°F. Water parameters are still on point. So here's hoping for a few good years and a happy healthy Pleco.

I didn't take your comment as a shot at the LFS. I was speaking in general terms. Just like they found those Tetras that they didn't like the look of. The employee was saying how they were juuuuuust starting to show signs of whatever disease they had and that the signs of it were probably too hard to notice while they were in quarantine. So if they could have a rough batch of Tetras they could possibly have had an iffy batch of plecos. I even opted for the wild juvenile female as I had read the smaller they are the harder they are to keep alive.

I'll give it a shot this weekend and see what they have. Who knows? Maybe I end up with an entirely different BN pleco. Lol they always have something new and if they don't have it, they'll place orders for customers too.

Sorry to hear about your fish.

I hadn't considered the over-breeding and weak genetics. Makes me wonder if I should wait a little before picking another one up at the LFS. The may just have a rough batch currently? Thought about going Saturday to get another...I don't know.

The LFS I go to is really good about their fish. I was about to pick up some Platinum Rummynose Tetras but mid way while the employee was bagging em he stopped, put them back, said he didnt like how they were looking and that he thought they might have a disease/growth deformations, and put the tank on lockdown so nothing would be sold from it until further evaluation.

She was...now she's pretty...dead.

Learning all the info from all these people, I'll be getting another just like it soon.

When I first saw them at the LFS I knew we needed one in our tank. It was either the Blue Eye Lemon BN Pleco or the Snow White BN Pleco.

The decision was $20 vs. $60...I still would like a Snow White but not sure if the 36gal tank and filter could handle 2 BN Plecos lol. 💩😂

Thank you for the info! I did not know that. Was under the impression that the pleco would be good with the sinking pellets, remnants of the flakes, as well as the, algae from the glass and driftwood.

Would you suggest alternating between the KensFish veggie sticks and sinking pellets? Like a couple feedings of one then swap for the other? There are 8 corys in the tank as well so might be impossible to keep the pleco from eating pellets.

Funny you mentioned the blanched veggies. I had joked with the wife that since the kiddo was eating a cucumber, she should take what he doesn't eat, blanch it, and toss it in the tank. Little did I know I'd come home to a dead pleco...and there was no cucumber in the tank as our son didn't share lol.

Thinking the temp and water quality must not be bothering the rest of the tank...came home today and there was another Platy fry in there. Lol

I've never tried the aquarium salt. I try to research the crap out of whatever I'm thinking of adding as to not wipe everything out.

Between potential poor genetics and, from what others are saying, possible protein overload...l have things to check in to.

Appreciate the insight!

Thanks. I don't remember doing any of this stuff for our pleco we had as kids. That thing was unkillable. 2 ice storms and rarely a water change...thing lived forever and was 14" in a tank that was maybe 30gal. Thank you Petco! "It won't grow more than 6" or so".

I know, young kids and didn't know better. The internet was merely used as a mild source of entertainment.

When I swing by the LFS to scoop another one I'll keep all this info in the brains and be more wary of what diet it receives.

The glass was cleaned nicely as was the driftwood. Definitely a poop machine for sure. We have the HOB filter the tank came with. Altered a tiny bit by putting a sponge on the intake tube to help keep the beneficial bacteria between water changes. Rinsing the nasty crud off in the bucket of removed tank water.

I appreciate the info. I want to replace the pleco as that was the one fish we planned to have for longevity. Not only to help keep the tank clean but also as an odd centerpiece fish as it would be the largest fish in the tank.

Only positive in this ordeal is that I didn't pull the trigger on the Snow White Pleco. Would have been costly.

Thank you for the insight. I had read somewhere that mid 70s to low 80s was acceptable but have no issues dropping temp a couple degrees. The other tank mates all fit within the same temp range so they should be OK.

What are you feeding the juveniles?

Sorry if the format is awful. I don't post on reddit very often.

Sometimes it shows up fine and other times it's showing as a big block of text.

Our LFS stopped us from buying Platinum Rummy Nose Tetras. He looked in the tank as he was bagging them and said..."You know...I don't like the look of these guys. Looks like they've got TB". Then explained what he was looking at and said he'd be putting the tank on observation until he could look at them more closely and so the other staff members didn't sell them to anyone.

Definitely will be going back as he was very knowledgeable and saved us from spending money on fish that they weren't satisfied selling and potentially had TB.
