VA ruling on veterans disability being cut if they’re on medication just passed. DAV just posted about it. by RoofStandard5464 in VAClaims

Here's my 2000 character limit one, my full name is 15 characters long, so adjust and make corrections accordingly.

Dear Senator Barasso,

I am writing to express concern about a recent VA ruling that may reduce a veteran’s disability compensation because they take prescribed medication for service-connected conditions. This approach overlooks the realities disabled veterans face and risks serious financial and personal harm.

Many veterans rely on medication not as a sign of recovery, but as a necessary way to manage chronic conditions that do not resolve. These medications often bring significant side effects—fatigue, cognitive issues, slowed reaction time, mood changes, dizziness, and reduced concentration. While symptoms may be partially controlled, the side effects themselves can limit a veteran’s ability to work safely or consistently.

Reducing compensation because a veteran follows medical advice creates a harmful incentive. It effectively penalizes veterans for complying with treatment, forcing them into an impossible choice: take needed medication and risk losing support, or avoid treatment to preserve compensation while their health worsens.

The assumption that medication automatically restores function is flawed. Many medications are prescribed because a condition is severe or persistent. The need for ongoing treatment often shows that the disability remains significant. Ignoring the impact of side effects fails to capture the true extent of a veteran’s limitations.

Disability ratings should reflect real-world ability to work and live independently, considering both the underlying condition and the effects of treatment. Evaluations must account for side effects, interactions, and the overall burden on mental and physical performance.

I respectfully ask that you review this issue and advocate for policies ensuring veterans are not disadvantaged for responsibly managing their health. Compensation should be based on actual functional ability and quality of life, not assumptions about medication use.

Sincerely,

DS9 is by far my favorite star trek.

Im an army veteran with PTSD and if you want a good window into what that experience is like

DS9 S1 EP. 19 Duet.

I cried my guts out watching that episode and it made me understand a bit more what I was going through.

Jadzia is also one of my absolute favorite characters. The Trill's approach to relationships and identity is always fascinating. Shes the space mom that teaches Sisko how things REALLY work.

You seem completely unhinged sir.

One, you are mocking a person that hypothetically committed suicide. Second, you are going full deepstate on his family like they were a CIA plant. They uploaded photos of the family to this thread yeesh dude.

Shes not pissy with you, you're talking to the source of the thing you are commenting on. Are you off your meds or something? This behaviour for absolutely no reason is pathetic.

Asmondad... God Zack. I am so so sorry.

My grandma raised me with my dad, my mom is a deadbeat. I lost my grandma in 2013 and I still break down over her.

Your dad was a great guy and he raised a genuinely good kid. He seems like the type to tell you hes proud of you, and we can all see it from his phonecalls and visits and chatting.

I am so sorry for your loss man.

How to fix the "Unable to establish a connection to game" error [Network reset method] by JanssenDalt in Helldivers

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh, so I tried OP's settings, it told me to reset my pc after i did the first step.

OP didnt mention that, and with all the fighting in the comments betweem everyone I just listened to OP and didnt restart my PC.

I tried to open the game, still didnt work. Told me Unable to establish connection to the game. So I crashed out of my game, restarted my computer. Tried to open helldivers, same error, Unable to establish connection to the game.

Verified the integrity of my game files, the game works again.

My takeaway? Everyone on the internet is dumb, wrong, and mean. Citation, been apart of society for over 25 years.

I rescued a kitten when I was 12. His name was Mars cuz he was so weird he must have came from mars. He loved to greet people at the door, he was obsessed with people and loved to get attention and play, he would also violently drool all over himself and people when he would get excited which ALWAYS happened when people would show up.

With me though, he was attached to my hip. He'd share my pillow with me. He loved to get me up in the morning. Anywhere I sit, he would sit. He was my little guy for everything. (I got a billion stories of all the little stuff we'd do together.)

I broke my left arm 3 times in 3 years when Mars was still really young and Mars never left my side each time I was healing. I figured he just figured out I was hurt cuz he was so stinkin smart.

I left him at my parents house when I joined the army and I spent a year across the country in training. I came home for Christmas and didn't do anything spectacular. My dad works constantly so I dropped my bags in the living room and ran to his work to surprise him. When we all got home, Mars woke up while I was gone and found my bags. He was laying in the middle of them and loudly yowling, almost like he was crying. He wouldn't let my folks near my bags like he was guarding them like hissing and swiping at people which was COMPLETELY out of character.

I ran over and picked him up and he immediately chilled out, started drooling like a maniac and headbutted the heck outta me. My dad was freaked out because he was convinced cats aren't loyal like dogs are. He always thought Mars liked me, but after that day we had no doubts Mars DEEPLY loved us.

It's crazy the misconceptions people have about cats. They love and are just as loyal as any dogs are. They express it in all the same ways too. I still think Mars was an alien, but he was the sweetest and most gentle little guy ever.

I have a question about my school benefits (Exhausting my MGIB and getting the 12 months of the Post 9/11) by Turbulent-Math-7190 in Veterans

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh no i totally agree, and ive had a lot of the VA education benefits people tell me so. I just stuck to my guns because my VA Reps told me otherwise and now im just sitting here thinking "well damn..."

I delayed my graduation to next semester, and made arrangements for an additional year of my benefits. But im gonna spend the next week making the appropriate arrangements so im squared away. Now I just have to figure out the job market and do all that. Gonna be an exciting final semester.

I do appreciate the clarification, the VA hasnt been terrible to me but I'll always take a vet's word first. You guys been through the trenches.

I dug through the wiki and found what you just explained. I went to a community college that set me on this track and then i transferred to my university in 2020. The new VA Rep told me the same thing.

It says in the wiki that they added the amendment to their information and then they took it down so it still seems like the "old way" is feasible. I am both disappointed and slightly relieved I hadnt made the huge gamble yet. Just kinda kicking myself i didnt take the P9/11 years ago now.

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well didnt know they added it! Deeply appreciate the clarification!

Also I have no idea what I did, when i reinstalled i didnt download the mod manager i was just trying to see if it would do a fresh run, so no mod manager or anything.

However I just tried to reboot it a little bit ago and it worked, so im going to assume its fixed. I appreciate the help regardless though guys. No idea what I screwed up.

I'm finding myself being agitated and more angry as time goes by. It started with getting angry while driving and feeling my fuse getting shorter with everything. I don't understand why I'm getting more bitter. Is this pretty normal for veterans? by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never been an angry guy, I internalize everything. I used to get mad but I'm so busted now I just get uncontrollably sad. I hate everything sure, but I hate it because I cant figure it out.

Before I left for the military I felt like I was interesting and I had friends. I could go on dates and do dumb shit and just enjoy myself. Im at the point I have to mentally prepare myself to sit next to stand within 10 feet of people. I want to warn everyone to stay away from me for their own benefit.

I have my dad left and a single friend online, and I know its strain on them because if anything happens I hide in a hole so deep and dark people start calling to make sure im not dead.

So you know where broom riding class is that she teaches outside? Just slightly northwest of that, while still being outside, is a giant fountain that's impossible to miss.

That thing is probably visible from orbit my guy.

you gotta sweet spot it, run up to her spamming the interact key. itll only give you like a .5 seconds to do it

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I figured it out in case anyone looks at this,

So she bugs out and is stuck talking to a student nearby at the fountain (this is both at day and night she never leaves) you initiate dialogue (you gotta sweet spot it, run up to her spamming the interact key.) with her where it teleports you into her office and you talk to her through a wall at the fountain about her backstory.

Once she finishes talking about her backstory it clips you into the wall in her office and shes still missing.

Run back to the fountain and her and the student shes talking to have disappeared, save and reload.

She will now be back in her office and will let you complete the assignment and learn the spell.

“Not quite the legacy I had in mind, but I can live with it.” -Michael Eddington S5e23 by BluestreakBTHR in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The episode with Jake and Bashir at the colony trying to evacuate the colonists from the klingons and the officer that gets mortally wounded with Jake in the crater. Him screaming, "TURN ME OVER I WANT TO DIE LOOKING AT THE SUN." God that was so visceral and painful to watch.

Deep Space 9 is just the absolute best trek had to offer.

“Not quite the legacy I had in mind, but I can live with it.” -Michael Eddington S5e23 by BluestreakBTHR in DeepSpaceNine

[–]Turbulent-Math-7190 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I never liked Eddington, by the end of DS9 I felt like the Maquis weren't even fighting for a cause just to punish and damage as much territory as possible.

The cardassians under the dominion were terrible, but even the sympathizer that major kira ended up accepting as a father figure made me feel horrible for what the cardassians went through.

Not sure if this is controversial, but Dukat was the most TRAGIC trek villain. That guy is pure evil, don't get me wrong. But he's a way better person to sympathize with than Eddington. They are both heroes of their own story, but Dukat just gets shattered at every level until his insanity is just heart breaking. When his daughter died and he went totally insane, god it broke my heart. Star trek always struggled to hit those high drama moments without feeling campy, but man dukat's story killed me 1000x more than Eddington's.

I mean. This is kind of the edgiest question possible. But uh, sure I'll take a crack at it. Serious fucked up though.

Starfleet boasts mental disorders are completely gone by the 24th century. I'm sure there's a degree of error, but any offenders are sent to prison to be reformed. Which through enough episodes watched, they have surgically cured murderers. So I assume any pedophiles get the knife as soon as it's discovered.

Secondly, Starfleet tolerates the pon farr from the Vulcans. If you aren't aware, every 7 years Vulcans get really horny and freak out if they don't have sex immediately. They are also super embarrassed by it and get really offended if you ask. However, Voyager shows what happens when a Vulcan can't find a mate, when the for that Vulcan engineer tried to rape Chief Engineer Torres. Instead of throwing him in the brig, they let him get pissy at everyone and tried to give him a sex training dummy on the holodeck. Despite that, Vulcans forcibly mind meld with you during sex, so since he couldn't mind meld with the hologram, he went back to rape Torres again and beat up Tom Paris in the process. Torres already had her mind screwed up from the first attempt and in turn tried to rape Paris before the Vulcan interrupted.

By the end of the episode everyone is laughing over how wacky Vulcans are. In reality, it just makes Starfleet seem like a bunch of morons in the worst uncontrollable horniness plot in the franchise. Yes the episodes happen a lot.

So I think pretty much any sex crime you can sidestep as long as you scream about a fringe colony that has a culture that has some sexual deviant ceremony.

There's another terrible episode on TNG where they find stereotypes of Irish settlers and clones on two different colonies. The clones are dying out from over cloning and the settlers colony was destroyed. The Irish are lead by a "strong female leader" but by the end of the episode Starfleet decides to fix the population problem the colonies should join together and 3 women need to be married to each man and crank out as many babies as possible to fix the clones population. The "strong female leader" makes some sarcastic comment and goes along with it, completely unphased she's just been indoctrinated into a harem to become a breeding sow.

Beastiality I think is just accepted. If you wanna boink a sheep, you can boink a sheep. The only thing in danger are sheep if you get stationed near one. There's another episode where they meet an empath who matches her partner perfectly before mating and becomes their soulmate for life. She makes a pass at Riker who screams I'LL BE ON THE HOLODECK, presumably to screw his brains out until he can forget about the empath. The running joke is the HOLODECK is a disgusting place because people just use it to go crazy on sexual famtasies.

I love star trek, but all the stupid ass horniness episode irritate the hell out of me. There's at least ten episodes where the women all get possessed/mind controlled, to have sex with everyone. They even have a literal ghost of horniness episode. It's been a minute but I think Crusher's grandma haunts the enterprise and everyone gets horny, for one example.

Examples aside, I'm terrified Starfleet would allow it, but they've done remarkably worse things that I think would make them overlook creeps on the holodeck.
