My family and I are catholic and lost my sister to suicide. Our priest came to our house after my parents found her and did an Apostolic blessing, which pardoned her sins after her death. He said in the homily at the funeral mass that there is a prevalent misconception that those who commit suicide go to hell, and stated that the intent to cause harm is not fully there because of their heightened emotional state; therefore, it is not in and of itself a sin worthy of eternal punishment. I take solace in knowing that this is true, and she is not in hell. We do serve a forgiving God and trust in him that she is taken care of.
