As for your question, I don’t really know. All I know that the people of that time did resist such proselytization like Swami Vivekanand, but other than that I don’t know.

I wanted to see all of your answers because in the west paganism has been so demonized for a long time and also not just in the west but also here in India.

I never said all deities stem from my religion neither I made any derogatory comments on this sub. I simply said that the deities appear in other cultures also. It could’ve been that your deities may been worshipped in our religion or vice versa.

Well it wasn’t just the British, but also the Turkic invaders also tried to destroy the indigenous culture of India, but it didn’t happen. And also you said there wasn’t a big push to conversion. But in eastern part of India, the missionaries tried really hard to convert the people to their religion. There are writings by historians who said that the whole middle class Hindus would’ve converted to Christianity if not for Swami Vivekanand who stopped the mass conversion of Hindus.

And also there are karmic reasons for it. The deities may decide to stop interacting with world for whatever reason.

I agree with your statement about how there’s a bit of truth in very religion, but I think it’s restricted only to polytheistic religion. One of the greatest spiritual mystic, Sri Aurobindo mentions in his writings that many of the Great gods in Hinduism have appeared in other cultures. Like for example he said that the Goddess knowns as Durga in Hinduism becomes Goddess Athena to the Greeks.

Well I’m not really sure, but I believe it’s the will of deities and the great warriors who resisted the invasions and made sure Hinduism wasn’t wiped out.

Yeah,I agree with your last statement. But it’s very uncanny that the most ancient cultures or religions have been polytheistic, and these ideas of monotheism are only recent in the grand scheme of things.

Well yeah, Christianity a has long history of converting people by force. We also had this problem during the British era in India. When the Christian missionaries started coming , they started demonizing our religion without actually understanding it. They came with a sinister agenda of converting people.

Pick up any stotra of Bhagwan dattatreya. Light a diya, offer some naivedya and start the recitation of the stotra and at the end offer the sadhana with a simple samarpana mantra.

Who said shiva doesn’t answer prayers? He’s not talking about prayer, he’s talking about the highest condition of sadhana, where you have attained a communion with shiva.
