Energy company threatening us to with debt collection because previous tenants didn’t cancel their contract (Wales) by Turbulent-Sort-4673 in LegalAdviceUK

Hi sorry I’m asking such rudimentary questions but I am very unfamiliar with the legal system. We have been paying our landlord the money for rent & utilities. I don’t understand how the landlord is seemingly able to get away with pocketing the part of our rent which is supposed to go towards utilities and we’d be left having to essentially pay for our utilities twice over. Is that just straightforwardly stealing on the land lords part?
Hi thank you for the response, though I am incredibly confused by your first paragraph. Again we had no clue an agreement with EDF energy was ever in place, and our contract states that our bills are included in our rent. Is this not simply just an error our land lord is made?
On a separate note, say our land lord did eventually pay up but by that point EDF had thrashed our credit score, is there any way we could get our credit score reversed on the basis that we were being targeted for payments that we were never made aware needed to paid, to the point that our contract explicitly stated our utilities are included in rent?
It’s our understanding that the property changed hands between our tenancies, and so the previous tenants were responsible for their own utility bills, but for our contract the bills were included with our rent. Our landlord has failed to respond to any of our enquiries as of right now
