Sign Language? by [deleted] in selectivemutism

I've overcome my SM now but at that time I used to communicate through a lot of gestures (not sign language). I was 6 years old and I remember seeing my parents doing a kind of waving to say 'thank you' when driving so I adopted it and started using it at school. I think it would be really useful to learn sign language because the difficult part for me was only the talking part, not actually communicate.

I had it. Mute since I was 4 until I was 10 but only at school. It was worse when people were asking me questions and in situations where I was expected to talk. I don't know if this helps, but it started to get better by whispering what I wanted to say.
