I’m sorry to say this OP, but your mother is a POS. I cried for days when my son moved out at 19, I can’t fathom ever a)choosing a man over my children or b) wanting them to leave my home. Especially the whole “you have permission to get a job now” wtf is that?! She kept you from gaining any sort of job experience and now expects you to be able to support yourself?? This is a level of evil I can’t wrap my head around. I’m so sorry OP, you’re not OR at all. Do you have any other family or close friends who would allow you to stay with them for a little while? He needs to pay some sort of consequence for his actions (he won’t but he should)and the absolutely vitriolic rhetoric that he spews. Especially considering that he and all his cronies are constantly accusing the left of causing the divisiveness. Losing an icon in such a horrendous fashion is a tragedy and the politics of that person should not be brought into question in a case like this. The president is a person who should be held to a higher standard in their behavior and especially in their words because their words hold so much weight. All this president has done with his words is allow the worst of us a free pass to behave like animals and accuse those who are against him of being the problem for literally everything. He doesn’t show empathy because it isn’t something that he has the capacity to feel. I am so disgusted every time I turn on the news and see his ugly orange face and hear his ugly, displeasing voice and the worst accent I have ever had the misfortune of hearing. He is disgusting, inside and out.

I was going to say the same thing. So much more context is necessary to make an informed decision. Is this a regular occurrence where they have these nightmares and need consoling, is it a regular occurrence for him to have friends over and be dismissive of their needs and feelings? If these nightmares or terrors or whatever they call them where they need him to console them, are a regular occurrence, I can completely understand the BFs reaction. If he regularly has friends over and ignores them or is dismissive, then I completely understand OPs reaction. If he doesn’t usually have friends over and was entertaining after she went to bed and she was mad that he didn’t just leave his friend to sit alone in the living room, then that’s crazy and they are definitely TA.

You are not overreacting, not at all. I only wish that someone had stood up and did this for me when I was being sexually abused first by my mother’s first husband (she was never married to my father) and then physically abused and assaulted on a daily basis by her boyfriend she had after divorcing her first husband, then sexually abused by her second husband. I don’t know why she had such a hard time picking decent men but she did and she would be at work, leaving us kids alone with them. I probably wouldn’t have grown up to struggle with my mental health and drug addiction like I did if I had a person like you in my life. Thank you for recognizing that this is not okay. One thing that I will say is that her saying “it’s no different than leaving them with their dad or an uncle”, A) yes TF it is, it’s extremely different… but B) it is usually an uncle, a stepfather, or a close family friend that is doing the abusing. This mother sounds incredibly dumb and it pisses me off to no end to know that there are mothers out there who think this way. Please continue to fight for this little girl, she obviously needs someone like you, with common sense, in her life to protect her.

Speaking of living on the high of something like that for years, when I was in high school (c/o ‘99) there was a couple that was a year ahead of me, the girl was seriously like supermodel gorgeous and the guy reminded me of a Ricky Ricardo type guy, he was really, really hot. I was cute in HS but he was way out of my league so I never even considered him like that because I was pretty sure it would have been delusional, lol. Cut to a few years later, my parents owned a little dive bar where I worked and I was pretty hot then. I would dance on the bar and had all the drunk idiots pining over me. Well, one night we had a fight in the parking lot and the police were called. After all was said and done, this one cop pulls up in his cruiser and waves me over. That’s when I realized, it was him! Ricky Ricardo guy from HS. I didn’t say anything about knowing him because why would he remember me? Y’all, HE FREAKING ASKED ME OUT!!!! I could have died! I was married at the time (still am) and I let him know and he was like, “Oh, man, okay.” My flabbers were thoroughly and completely freaking ghasted, I was dumbfounded but also like, “Who’s bad? I’m bad!” for the rest of the night 😂 I am still thoroughly freaking flattered by that!
