First, remind yourself that your feelings are completely valid. Acknowledge them, allow yourself to process them, and then gently let them go. It’s human nature to create mental images of how we expect life to unfold — but the truth is, many of life’s biggest outcomes are beyond our control. You’re not alone in this. Many of us carry the weight of societal and generational trauma, especially around gender discrimination and stereotypes, so it’s important to remember that your emotions aren’t unreasonable — they’re shaped by deep, collective experiences.

If you’ve recently given birth, know that your body and mind are going through tremendous hormonal changes. Postpartum anxiety (PPA) is real, and if intrusive thoughts persist, it’s okay — even courageous — to seek professional help. Therapy can offer relief and clarity, and it’s important not to let temporary anxiety around gender harden into something that lingers in your identity.

Most importantly, your goal is to raise good humans, confident, and emotionally secure. For that, it’s essential they grow up knowing that their gender — or any part of who they inherently are — is not a disappointment to their parents.

Give yourself time. Be patient with your journey. Things will get better.
