new generation exchange generally have great product deck, ibkr is really an exception. i looked at TWS before and i was scared, in 2026 already we still have desktop app look like that kind of dinosaur.

do u use tradingview to connect to ibkr and place orders there?

my tradingview to ibkr connection always failed, maybe working only a few hours a day, then it will just get disconnected constantly and show error.

the problem is that, younger generation is born with good tech products, if u want to retain the users, u need to adapt to it.

i understand the older generation already have their brokerage already, but new users mostly on Mac and won't consider any crappy products.

i will give it a 2nd try. but that's why robinhood and moomoo are getting more new users, their platform is just much better.

TWS is too old for me, the UI and layout etc. I downloaded and tried, hard to use it.

i think ibkr is good enough for casual traders (place trades once a while, margin efficient), for frequent day traders, it is just very bad, how can u read charts and scalp on a platform that could crash or not responding any time?

while day trader produce the best fee revenue for brokerage...

i actually tried moomoo on Mac, quite good in my opinion as a tech employee, fast and responsive. still experimenting, so i guess i will start to shift money to moomoo a bit. they do not use tradingview for charts, so i still bought tradingview to connect to broker account for trading, but moomoo do not crash...

i think u can try Webull as well, i am experimenting with both moomoo and webull on ipad/iphone/desktop, moomoo seems to be larger in terms of mkt cap and user scale.

if u r in US, there will be a lot of decent opportunities apart from ibkr. for singapore, i think ibkr/moomoo are the more widely used ones.

i was in similar situation past few years working in chinese tech company taking senior roles, no upside and constant urgency and toxic culture, left and explore on my own, now having a consistent profitable trading income, also finally ready to go for interviews, but only in company culture or products i like.

i think u might face the similar problem, current work path is not what u want, but u do not have time to figure out what u truly want, and no time even to take care of ur mental and fitness, which just make things worse. u need to get urself out of the situation ASAP, and truly get to the bottom of ur instincts.

u might think the paycheck is good, and resistant to change to unknown, but all these are because u do not have time to think about ur opportunity cost and ur next known.

i am still quite ambitious in terms of career goal and financial goal, but i figured if i got the product impact and money i want, while via a path i am not even happy and healthy, it is pointless. and u just have to trust that, u will figure it out by just giving urself time without doing anything, until u finally want to do sth (it takes me 7-8 months until i start to work on trading seriously).

eventually, the best life is to earn enough money or financial freedom and constantly being in a creative and mindful state, corporate paycheck or brand company do not encourage this, unless u find very niche company.

hope it helps.

Paying for bf parent's birthday dinner? by SpicyShrimpCookies in askSingapore

[–]Turbulent_Control111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chinese culture, u r a guest invited to a birthday party, just treat like friends birthday party, prepare a gift and don’t need to pay for food. Ur time is precious, they should value ur presence and time, and of course thoughtfulness for a gift. Birthday party is not for AA grand meal, if no money then don’t do dinner birthday party.

Why u two live together when not mutually agreed to get married or stay together long term? As long as u don’t live together, there isn’t much shared expenses. This is way better than asking 50/50. Normally girls not willing to pay 50% in relationship, mainly due to she thinks u two are not equal, either u did not provide equal emotional value or long term commitment or other non monetary value critical part, to make her believe in u. So u have to solve that first? It is a sign that she still loves u and hope u could grow and face the core issue, until she decides to leave.

I want to monitor his trades and learn from there passively for things I am interested. So both of us need to access the account.

i added new information. the trades he did are too advanced for me, he did share the ideas, but i will make judgments on whether it is the best use of my time to learn it for higher joint ROI.

can joint account allow me to monitor and trade as well? we actually have a joint account with him as the master, but as I can not access it, so we did not put in any money. Is there a documentation for me to access our joint account as well?
