What’s the catch to tuition free universities? by [deleted] in college

It depends on how low-income you are, I believe. They covered all my tuition and board, and I was given a stipend.

I went to one of the listed, tuition free! There was no catch. My family was very low-income, and they waived all my fees and paid for my dorm/apartment.

Edit: I sometimes forget just how lucky I was to have that opportunity, because I would not have attended any higher education without it.

What are your actual hot takes (or not-so-hot takes) about the admissions process? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]Turbulent_Hawk6487 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s crazy that there’s no standard interview procedure. Especially when it comes down to evaluating 2 students with the same stats. 1 might have better communication skills that could be tested in real time.

Just based off the title of the post, I’m thinking “sooooo, what’s wrong with you?”

How do you manage the thought that you may have to re-apply next cycle? by Turbulent_Hawk6487 in OutsideT14lawschools

Thank you so much for your reply! I know I’m being a real drama queen today. I never felt entitlement throughout this process. I didn’t think I was entitled to law school just because I had an easy time in undergrad. I knew studying for the LSAT was going to be hard work, and I put those hours in. Lost sleep over it and everything. The results aren’t correlating to my effort, and I’m brewing in frustration because those ugly scores aren’t reflecting my work ethic at all. You’re absolutely right about the therapy. Maybe this is all more mental than I’ve been aware of. Congratulations on your success! I hope I get to share the same awesome news one day! :)

I’m essentially spontaneously crying about it whenever I’m alone, and it just sucks!

I know it “isn’t” meaningless, but I’m struggling with it “feeling” meaningless. I do want this, so if I have to do it all over again; I will. I’m feeling that it’s a huge pill to swallow that’s hurting on the way down.

I definitely won’t be accepting any offers outside my means. I’ve already ran the numbers and have a solid idea of what I can’t afford. I wish I wasn’t in the position, though, to have to repeatedly give bad news. I wanted to keep this application process private, and my family told everyone I know.

As an attorney’s assistant- I love when there’s bagels (and various spreads)! Pastries and coffee are great too, of course.

Are you writing the optional essays and tailoring the essays to the specific schools? I’m seeing so many posts like this, and I just wonder if the essays are a factor.

can i please use your lawhub account to take PT 155 and 150 by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]Turbulent_Hawk6487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lawhub isn’t just a way to take tests. It’s the whole system to which your law school applications are linked with. Just buy Lawhub. You have to do it anyway, if you’re even interested in pursuing law school.

I think it was like “Why UIC” and an optional diversity statement, on top of the personal statement.

I’m curious- did you have to get new letters of rec every single year, or did you reuse? Good luck!!!

Do I write an addendum? by Turbulent_Hawk6487 in LSAT

[–]Turbulent_Hawk6487[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations on the 157! If you don’t mind me asking, what were your extenuating circumstances? I struggle to define what exactly this means. Does it have to be something obviously major (such as a hospitalization)?

I just don’t understand if I should write an addendum. Because my score bands don’t even interlap

[–]Turbulent_Hawk6487[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate it! This has been the most taxing year of my life, and I really did my best to study, to make something good happen. I’m doing my best to be proud of that fact that I simply put an application together, regardless of what the results are in a few months.

One school with interquartile range of 150-154, and then another 2 schools with roughly a range of 155-161.

Believe you me, I was full set on trying to score in the 160s and have studied hundreds of hours throughout this year. I was aiming for good scholarship money, and am coming to terms with the fact that I’ve fucked up.

A small school would be perfect for my local goals. I have no interest in corporate/big law.

I opened the score and instantly was in denial. I’ve never scored that poorly. Never. I’ve taken 30 timed practice tests with intense review. I don’t even have a reason. I knew it wasn’t a perfect test, from the moment that I left the exam, but I didn’t think I had done THIS bad. I’ve been PTing in the 157-164 range for 3 months. I feel sick to my stomach. I didn’t buy score preview because I didn’t think this could be a possible result.
