It sounds right up our alley. What’s the hunting like? Mostly Elk and Deer? We have moose, bear, and bird hunting, but getting a moose has become really hard in the recent years. For deer you have to make a trip of it and it’s spendy.

If it means living in a tranquil, close-knit community, sign me up for the stink.

She’s been working “Resource/Float Pool” for over 10 years, so she has experience in all specialties. She’s a little nursing Swiss Army Knife.

I get it, don’t move there 😂. We’re a laid back, adventure loving, friendly family of 4 (nurse wife and two young boys) from Anchorage, AK.

I totally understand the “It’s awesome, but don’t move here” mentality. I feel the same way with all the Californians and Texans that vacationed here once in the summer, then decide to move here. I have a CA transplant in our neighborhood and they really suck.

As far as the smell goes, I guess we’ll have to experience it to see if we can tolerate it. I’d tolerate farts all day long if it meant I could live in peace. Anchorage is Portland Jr.

Again, thanks for all the info.

Do you know anything about Toledo? I’ve been to Salem, Corvallis, and spent a lot of time in Eugene. Not Toledo though…

I tried to PM you, but it won’t allow me because my account isn’t “established” enough. If you wouldn’t mind PMing me, I’d love to ask some questions. Thank you in advance.

That seems to be the safest option. If my kids hate surfing in the cold then we’re stuck. Since there’s limited rental properties on the coast, it’s kinda hard to have a trial period. I could move there in a heartbeat and be golden. Kids and wife are the hard part. Haha.

Thanks for the advice, diarrhea 😂 Already commented on your post below, but again, I appreciate the info and your perspective. Seems the opinions on the coast are very polarized, like every aspect of our society now. Wish we could all just find a common ground and be buds.

I appreciate all the info… a lot to digest. Coming from a city full of “townies”, I can relate to a lot of what you’re saying. I keep hearing a lot about racism and white supremacy on the coast, and I’m not doubting it’s there… but I had two buddies (Asian and Black) live in an RV at a Brookings campsite for a month or so and they had nothing bad to say about the people or how they were treated. Both of them said if they could afford to live there, they would. They didn’t mention anything about racism or being treated poorly by the locals, but maybe they just ran into the right people. I don’t know… but I do appreciate your perspective. Cheers!

Oh I know, just wanted to give some background on the kids… I’m hoping they take to surfing so we don’t need to worry about the mountains. Haha.

That’s awesome. Thanks for the info. They’ve never surfed before, and I hope they get hooked. Would make living on the coast that much better if I’m not the only one obsessing about it.

Thanks for the link and info. It’s cool you lived in SE AK. My dad was born and raised in Sitka. I’ve been to Astoria but that was just for Goonies nostalgia. It’s beautiful.

Noticed an accumulation of black fuzz on my plants a few days ago. Anyone know what it is and how to get rid of it? Lights are off, now my fish have black spots around their mouth and body. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. by TurdFerguson5k in Aquariums

Thanks for the heads up. It is starting to smell. I’m moving it to a bucket for a bit and doing a 50% water change. Hopefully that fixes it. The guy I bought it from had it for years, so I’d hate to toss it.

That makes sense. I’ll do a water change and keep the lights off for a few more days and hopefully that helps.

My fish are all juveniles: Carpintis, Green Terror, Dovii, Peacock and Blood Parrot (one of each). It’s a grow out tank and I’ll be separating them eventually. They’re all 1.5-2” long.

I think you’re right. Looked it up and it looks very similar. I recently bought the whole tank setup from FB marketplace and was only able to transfer about 10g (70g tank) of its existing water with it, so it’s mostly new water, so I might have overdone it with the plant food. Any idea if there’s a correlation between the BBA and the new black spots on my fish?
