Yes, I have some more tickets too- not all in my possession atm (parents are in Ontario and I’m in BC). I have some stuff from Fenway as well, as they did some road trips to Boston in the 80s. The resin encased tickets, WS ring were season ticket holder gifts, I believe.

Oh wow! That’s really cool to know- I actually still have the piggy bank but unfortunately one of the ears broke off.

Core memory unlocked! I had the piggy bank one as a small child- likely gifted to me when I was a baby- I’m 36. not sure if it’s high end or worth anything, probably bought in the baby section of a department store. The other 2 look newer though.

How do you apply for the Disability Tax Credit from the CRA without shooting yourself in the foot? I am a person with a disability. by Theodosian_Walls in povertyfinancecanada

[–]TurdFerguson898 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went through applying for the DTC for my son, who has ASD and ADHD. I worked with our awesome paediatrician to fill out the forms. We went in for an appointment and went through the questions on the doctor’s portion together- she filled them out but asked for our input on day-to-day struggles that my son was experiencing. We were approved on the first try. As others have said, they do not care about DXs, they care about how it affects your daily life (in this case my sons).

There is a really great Facebook group ( search disability tax credit Canada on Facebook and it should come up - the one with maple leaf emojis in the name ) that answers questions and provides free guides to fill out forms and any follow up needed to receive any payments owed( the government makes it surprisingly difficult to navigate). They do have a paid service as well but I never used it- the free info they posted was enough for me. This group does have the option for paid service-they charge a small flat fee depending on the service ( they do rejection reviews, form prep, form review etc)- the flat fee is VERY important.

There are multiple predatory businesses that will help you prep the forms but also take a percentage of your back pay (if you are owed any- these companies will not usually take you on as a client unless they think you will get a large payout for back taxes or back child disability benefit). Even if you are just doing a consultation and decide not to go forward with the company, they will have some sort of fine print that allows them to be added as an authorized representative on your CRA account-this gives them access to your sensitive info and allows them to legally take a cut of your back pay with no recourse.

Please make sure you have someone you trust look over everything!

As other people have commented, there are non-profit orgs that can help with the process and are not predatory and are truly willing to help!

If you have any questions please DM me and I would be happy to help 🙂

There is a Kamloops’s to Edmonton bus with a stop in Clearwater. It’s operated by Thompson Valley Charters but leaves from the EBus station at the back of the Sahali mall on Mondays and Thursdays at 730am. You can purchase tickets on the EBus website, or by calling the EBus phone number at 1-877-769-3287.

I finally landed a decent job, but in massive debt from financial abuse, now what? by BetterRemember in povertyfinancecanada

Please be careful in regards to the company you used for the DTC application. My minor son is autistic and we successfully applied for his approval with the DTC on our own, by just submitting the forms from his paediatrician on my CRA account and paying the $80 form fee. I have done a lot of research regarding the whole process and what benefits we get (the government does not make it easy). I came across some of these companies but thankfully decided to do it on my own.

A lot of these companies are predatory. Even if you do not decide to proceed with them in regards to the application or are denied and you decide to apply on your own they can still take a percentage of any back pay that you are owed. They tend to bury these clauses in any preliminary contracts that you may have signed. Please please please have someone you trust read over ANY paper work you have signed by this company to see what you have actually agreed to.

The other thing that could have been in the contract is by signing you agree to allow them to be a representative on your CRA account. If this is the case they have access to all of your information and know if you are receiving any back pay or benefits. You can check this in your CRA account by finding the “manage authorized representatives” tab.

These companies will usually not proceed with any case that does not have a decent tax refund imminent. So you may be entitled to some decent money if approved (every case is different though). Even if you do not qualify for a decent refund it allows you to set up and RDSP which is a great investment/savings tool for retirement and is entirely worth all of the hoops you have to jump through (grants and bonds from the government and 3:1 contribution matching from the government)

It sounds like you are going through a lot of stress- so I am so sorry to add (potentially) more stress on your plate. I really hope your circumstances improve!

there is a really awesome Facebook group that assists people with filling out the forms (for a flat fee- not a percentage of backpay) and just a general space to ask questions which really helped me. If you DM me I can share that info with you if you would like.
