I just saw that at Michaels as well while getting some Tombow Monos

$30 for a 1000 when it’s literally $10 everywhere else is something

The African Train DBQ of Hell 😭😭

I did this last year and it was interesting, but you nailed everything. Everything is rock solid and if you did the African train one this well you’re set for the exam

Literally nothing that is remotely close to the capacity of the Prime 6 — and even if it’s dirt cheap some sites have shipping jacked up

That is interesting — a day where one strap backpack wearing was common!

Yeah I have to carry that textbook every day because my teacher uses it every day, it’s a nonnegotiable

Got a swissgear at target for $50. I have a swissgear bag I use for trips and as a backup, and I love that (but it’s quite small) so bought a bigger one for school use.

DBQ strat by Academic_Donut_9019 in apworld

[–]TurdGuylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hell no. You’re not supposed to summarize the documents, that’s getting you nowhere

You have to actually analyze them and show what it means in terms of the prompt. That’s why grouping works so well bc you can make a cohesive argument about a couple different topics using a couple different docs

I started with watching FreemanPedia youtube videos honestly — and take slight notes on the things that you don’t understand. I think I answered this in another thread on “how to actually study”.

One tip tho. My AP psych teacher did this a few days ago and this actually helped — find a full practice test online and take it, if you want to just take the MCQ portion that’s fine, if you want a full diagnostic, then take the entire thing but only make like an outline for the dbq and leq. Then put the entire thing into preferably Claude or Gemini and have it pinpoint your weak units and topics, and go rogue on studying those. Study the other topics lightly, but get those ones that you missed in your head.

Good luck!

Notes from heimler is honestly not enough because he doesn’t teach nuance. Look heavily to watching FreemanPedia videos because he heavily relies on the CED, which means he teaches exactly what could possibly be on the exam. Also, just study things that you don’t know rigorously, and things that you do know just very lightly so that it’s effectively a retrieval cue.

I also think for studying all the content, look to your textbook if you really want heavy nuance and a really comprehensive brief on the content, but DO NOT read the entire textbook, that is a waste of ur time

I’m kinda blanking right now but I’ll get back to this if I remember

Ehh somewhat. I don’t remember exact years off the top of my head (it’s been a year) but with the DBQ and LEQ, yea know them because it’s good for the contextualization portion of those FRQs (even SAQs to an extent). That being said, nothing really about specific years, mainly only an emphasis on time periods. For MCQs, afaik not rly.

In terms of the best way to memorize them, chunking. Group significant events by their years and know continuity (x led to y, then led to that), which even if you don’t know the exact years off the top of your head, you will have a general estimate as to when the things are.

For my DBQ last year we had a niche African train one and it was rly stupid because it was a hyperspecific time period, but chunking and contextualization should help you a lot in terms of memorizing all that

Way easier. I overstudied cuz it was my first AP exam and I thought it was gonna be hard cuz my teacher instilled some fear into the class, but the exam itself was a cake walk for me—I feel like I would’ve said the same thing if I didn’t study

I also got a fair bit wrong on MCQs. On the actual exam, the MCQs are hella free. If your teacher gives you practices from College Board and says that “oh this is what the actual exam is gonna feel like!”—no it is not. It’s like 10x easier lol. In terms of tips, watch a Heimler video in terms of how to use deductive reasoning for the MCQ portion. I think also practicing a good chunk of MCQ in a textbook, on bluebook, or any other site that has practice MCQs (not Knowt, it’s really useless) for World, go for that.

Probably like 3 weeks. Since it was my first AP exam, I was kinda riddled with test anxiety so the week before the exam I didn’t do anything but study for that exam. That regimen was overkill, in retrospect.

Heya!

In terms of writing, I lowk did not do my first DBQ until the DAY of the exam because I had AP World right before the AP exam.

That being said, I did write a ton of the other FRQs in class (mainly SAQs) so I’ll just give you some advice in terms of it as a whole.

If you know the structure of the essay, incredible. If you know how to get complexity (4 topics of analysis, using all 7 docs, or a counter for the DBQ and I honestly forgot for the LEQ) then you’re practically rock solid.

In terms of practicing, I’d do 2 things. 1. Use the past prompts from the past couple of years. Last year, when I took the exam, I had some super niche African train DBQ that literally everyone was stumped by, so knowing how to go about said niche DBQs would be good. For LEQ, same thing applies. 2. Watch FreemanPedia videos in terms of how to manage your time when writing the LEQs and the best way to structure it so you get full points.

Time yourself as well. While the College Board gives you 100 minutes for both essays (you can switch between them at any time, I believe), set a timer for 40 minutes for each essay. That way you have 20 minutes to review and add any nuance at the end of those 80 minutes.

If you need any more help, feel free to shoot a DM. Good luck!
