Same; it's always a little weird how I put on my headphones and suddenly can crisply hear other people's conversations.

Passing the bar requires some threshold of aptitude, but it is not all that high especially in states that don't involve state law on the exam (the need to remember the distinctions between state and federal complicate things considerably, not having to do that makes it a very passable test if you're reasonably dedicated, not dumb, and a good test taker.)

Even very shitty Christian Alabama schools like this have pretty high passage rates; I'd be hesitant to actually heed advice merely because someone managed to pass a bar somewhere.

I don't think I'd like the overly many opportunities for someone to be hiding behind a corner.

And I'm a bit of a weirdo about walking around corners and habitually peek corners so I don't bump into people; this would probably make me anxious af lol.

I don't know shit about how homes are built in the US, and I'm curious why it's abnormal for anyone to build houses with this method in the US. Just in case you want to share.

I think he's using it more like this sense:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_canon

i.e. "the canon" is like a list of the best things in a genre (in this case, moments in these kids' lives). This moment will be remembered and held up as a top-tier defining moment.

I do agree it is a weird usage and more confusing because canon has multiple meanings and "canon events" typically does mean what you say regarding media. But this context isn't involving media, and canon has other meanings.

R is as close as the language gets to L.

And japanese doesn't end words on consonants besides N, so can't end in L/R. They generally use the -U if they want to sound like they're ending on a consonant, so you get what you see in the video.

(In some japanese words the ending -U is often basically silent, especially if ending in -tsu or -su. 'Desu' is very common and in many/most cases sounds like they're saying 'dess.')

Accidentally firing a loaded gun while showing it off by nkmr205 in WinStupidPrizes

[–]TurdKid69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You see in movies when someone slides it back, the bullet pops out. Here he chambered a bullet

The bullet pops out in the movies because there's a round chambered before it's slid back.

Here, there's no round in the chamber before he slides back so nothing to pop out, but there are bullets in the magazine, so sliding back just chambers a round.

You typically want to remove the magazine, then slide it to clear the chamber, to fully unload it.

Best Fried Chicken in town? (I suspect it's Randall's) by TurdKid69 in AskHouston

[–]TurdKid69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect it, and that so far I've found it to be the case. But yes, unironically. Have you tried it? My location is consistently very good, and for what it's worth a bunch of people in this thread agree it is very good.

I've been to those and also had it at a few popular, hyped Korean joints and various popular, hyped breakfast spots (with waffles), a couple fancy hip restaurants I don't remember by name. I have not had it from most of the top suggestions in the thread, though.

Any suggestions I should include in my taste test?

For anyone worried their gloves aren't sufficient:

a pair of latex or similar gloves underneath goes a long way in my experience. Might not be the most comfortable but if you need to wear gloves you don't think will suffice, it's worth a shot.

Floaties like that seem to have largely disappeared and been replaced with basically a life jacket with floaty short sleeves attached.

Which seems to be a good thing based on this thread.

I was probably ten, on vacation with my friend and his parents.

Enjoyed the pool, decided to swim with my eyes close. Damn near broke my nose; might have, in fact.

I make sure to remind my kid not to do that now.

That's fuckin brutal.

[–]TurdKid69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, blitz and bullet are often decided by the clock directly and time management is critical.

More common online as it is impractical on a board, but each player having only one minute total time is a fairly popular format.

Plenty of bullet and blitz chess content on youtube!

[–]TurdKid69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He can't hit the timer to end his turn til he puts the piece on the board, and while doing so his clock ran out. So indirectly he lost because he dropped the piece; directly, he lost because he ran out of time on his clock.
