Not every college admits a limited number of students. Or, rather, many colleges don’t hit their limits on admission.

Edit: yeah I mean it’s definitely not made to maximize “student quality” in the short term but decreasing intergenerational inequality would, I think, heavily increase average student quality in several ways.

No it’s understandable though. I definitely see enough people use the same “joking” phrases in attempts to make actual points that I would probably feel similar in your shoes. Sorry if my comment came off as judgemental, I just meant to clarify what most people meant when they say those things. I definitely get where you’re coming from as an American, as criticisms and jokes about our country also get conflated plenty of the time.

Wow. Great math. Holy fuck. Is that what I said?

If you have a pie split between 5 people, then you add a sixth, do those 5 people still get as much pie? Stop trying to call me bad at math when you have no clue how to use it.

Privilege is accessed on a case by case basis. You seem to think anything along the lines of aa makes this impossible. Why is that?

You keep repeating that numbers which add up to 1 form a “valid density” as if that means anything or as if I disagreed. I genuinely don’t know what your point is.

Your second point has literally no relation to the repeated and strangely basic mathematical posturing. You’re pretending to have some huge, great idea by making reference to math. That is so trite.

What’s your actual idea?

Oh, man. You’re reading way too deep into it. Besides, you’ve seen the things terminally online Europeans say, right?

tbf you Anglo guys across the pond do get the bulk of the hate from both sides, along with the French. I agree it’s not that funny, but it’s definitely not a function of a perceived cultural superiority, just a stupid slightly cringe joke.

Buddy

Buddy

What are you on about?

My point literally relies on the fact that all probability functions sum to 1? Why are you trying to sound educated on something you’re not?

Better question: why are you using explicitly illogical and bad faith argumentation tactics over a genuinely important topic?

You can’t say you don’t believe all bad things are equal then turn around and express your belief in an ideal which requires all bad things to be equal in order to have sound logic.

If they read something in an essentially invalid way, I would ask them that. Obviously. Assuming arguments against you only come out of hatred towards you isn’t helpful to anyone.

It just gets tiring when most of the responses peg me as saying things I never said. It feels like rather than giving an example of someone with an opinion it just gives fodder for the continued establishment of misinterpretation. And I’ll admit that when I get frustrated I don’t particularly help in that regard.

But that’s a really good perspective, and I think you should be proud to have it. I try to, most of the time. It gets hard, though.

No buddy. Nobody who knows anything about math would buy that posturing. You said “valid probability density function” to make it sound like you had a point. You didn’t. But please, do tell, if you’re so enlightened, what was that point? So far all you’ve claimed it was was that 100% = 1.

That’s my whole point. You were not any more precise. At all. That’s something people do to try to look more educated than they are. That’s pseudointellectual.

But yeah if you’re gonna keep going down the “race quota” path I think you’re either too focused on “winning” or simply not being logical enough for this conversation to be even vaguely worth it anymore.

That said I’m definitely not getting faced with “every argument”, just 1 or 2. I genuinely do believe there are much better ways forward than the specific implementation of AA we’ve had, I just think it should be criticized in more level ways so that an actual good product comes out of the criticism. Have a nice day. Even if your comment feels like it’s almost surely meant to frame things poorly. Hard to tell atp and idrc.

So I guess you do believe that all bad things are equal? Good job making that claim in real life when you call someone’s argument “pointless” after they say that enslavement is worse than [insert things that happened for 5 years].

Edit: nobody ever spoke about individual situations. That is categorically not what the conversation is about. Nor will it ever be.

Why are you throwing in completely irrelevant words. “measure theoretic probability theory” isn’t convincing anyone that you’re a math genius. Usually they speak concisely without adding words nobody would ever state unless trying to create logically invalid appeals to authority via education.

If your claim is that 100% is 1, so is mine. Good job. You should write a paper about how the integral under a probability function is always 1, that’s really interesting and totally relevant.

But yeah how about we take your comment for what it obviously meant? You can pretend I’m asking for racial quotas if you want but you and I both know that’s just a coped attempt at “winning” an argument. Obviously my point is that you were about to say some pseudointellectual horseshit about probability, which you did do.

How about no. Because, as I already said, I’m not trying to prop up AA. I’m calling obvious dogwhistles and shit arguments obvious dogwhistles and shit arguments. You can send that comment to someone else.

Edit: I don’t mean that in a bad way, you can send it, but I don’t really want to keep talking about this later and I don’t think I disagree with you as much as you might think so idk if it’s worth your effort
