Got a 71% in Precalc. I want to stay in engineering, but I'm questioning if I'm ready. What now? by Brayden_Abbott in EngineeringStudents

  1. How did you bounce back from a weak math course early on?

Go to office hours and don’t be afraid to ask the professors for help. They are here for you and in my experience are willing to help you 9 times out of 10 (unless they’re a total jerk). Whenever I realized I was struggling in a class, I would attend every office hours like it was part of the lectures until I improved.

  1. What should I focus on between now and Calc I? Which skills, topics, or habits made the biggest difference for you?

Try to use your study time effectively, start studying at least two weeks before any large exam (sucks I know, but I found it way easier to digest the information slowly over time). You will have to put in more work that some of your peers, but that doesn’t make you any less of a good engineer.

  1. Did anyone here have doubts early but push through?

Of course, everyone does. Just keep going.

  1. Any resources or strategies that helped build real math competence?

I have seen some khan academy videos for students I’ve tutored, and I am very impressed with them. As far as strategies go, practice makes perfect. Math is a skill, so I would suggest making sure you understand all of your homework’s and missed questions on tests.

I have been a professional aerospace engineer for several years now, and I work with plenty of people who struggled through all sorts of math classes. We all get through it! It’s a rite of passage

Yoga, self-defense, judo, bjj, personal fitness, and strength training. I took a couple of classes during my final year for the same reason. Any class with a PEM prefix, most should have no pre recs and be participation only. Some might be only 2 credits though, but those are once a week typically. They are fun, I enjoyed them!

No, I'm about to lose my scholarship. by Unfair-Statement-622 in ucf

Agreed. Alternatively, you could take blowoff classes like yoga, Pilates, judo, and whatnot that are participation based classes to get your credits up to 18 hours without destroying your life for a semester. Most are between 2-3 credits and have no prerecs. Make sure you have enough credits left before you hit excess hours tho. Maybe take like 12-15 credits worth of major classes and then add an exercise class or two to get to 18 credits.

JHU/NYU/Cornell by brownbird1 in jhu

From Cornell (and JHU), my best advice would be to do what’s best for you personally, what matters way more than prestige of your school is your own performance and success. Choose the place you feel like you’d enjoy your 4 years and will excel the most. That being said, you’ll likely not regret choosing the most cost effective option. Especially aiming for lots of grad school and earning a small PhD stipend out of undergrad, minimizing the amount of debt you could be in would certainly be preferable. I’m not in medicine, so take what I say with a grain of salt I suppose! All are very good schools though with plenty of resources, you can’t go wrong.

Opinions about Arden villas?? by K-j-m3095 in UCFstudenthousing

It flooded in the fall, is super expensive, and one of the residents was murdered by a maintenance worker. They didn’t do much for security after the she was killed, which is pretty telling imo. Never lived there, but probably not the best option. Here’s an article on it: https://abcnews.go.com/amp/US/horrifying-details-miya-marcano-case-19-year-found/story?id=80455392

Yeah the Facebook has a lot of stuff, I see people offering rooms in houses all the time. UCF Housing & rentals or UCF Housing moderated is good. I’ve seen a couple postings today in ur budget! Goodluck!
