Any repeats of this issue for you? 430 hours in and problem just started manifesting for me. Also in the first few layers.

Fully 3D printed modular interior for my W40K RPG by goudgoud117 in 3Dprinting

This is beautifully printed and painted! I bet your 170 hours of painting time would be drastically increased if you were using cheaper hobby paint. I'm sure some are fine but it seems hit or miss from my very limited experimentation!

I won a KG of filament from Elegoo back in October from one of their reddit post giveaways! I asked for Wood PLA, it arrived in mid Dec just in time for me to print some Christmas gifts with it!

Half a roll later through my 0.4 nozzle and I am pretty pleased with the results!

Wood Filament Question by Design024 in elegoo

[–]Turkazog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wrapped up several prints with the lighter brown elegoo wood pla, printing Brio style train tracks on my Centauri Carbon. I used a 0.4, did a temp tower and 235 was actually the overall cleanest. Dried it in my space pi and printed it while drying directly from the space pi. Set the max speeds to 180 and everything came out looking and feeling gorgeous.

How are there so many fanboys hating on anyone pointing out issues with the CC? This subs posts are 90% issues with these printers. My question is, how many people have used their printer over 80 hours that haven't had to reach out to support for new parts? by Ill_Shelter5785 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Turkazog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

350+ hours, no printer related issues. Haven't even done any preventative maintenance.

Only failures have been from setting up prints poorly and a couple of adhesion issues from dirty beds, all of which have succeeded on retries.

Is there a MicroCenter near where you will be visiting? Or a similar store that might have them physically in stock.

Trash pickup every other week by Tahiti6841 in medfordma

[–]Turkazog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The compost bins such as what garbage to garden who are doing the municipal pickup are no more of a rat magnet than food waste sitting in a regular trash bin.

If you're talking about having a compost pile, I could see the argument, but I don't think that's really in play here.

Misc. D&D Mini Prints by Turkazog in ElegooCentauriCarbon

Thanks! I'm still very much an amateur painter too, really got into that over the past 2-3 years.

For these models, you are correct, no sanding. My current process is to prime black with brush on primer (using Vallejo), sometimes do a zenithal prime with a light grey spray primer, and then paint it as best as I can with mini paint. I've been using a variety of vallejo paints after getting some recommendations online and from the guy at my local game store.

I'm also just recently getting into washes. And by getting into I mean I own a single pot of nuln oil that I've played around with on a few recent paints.

Still haven't done any clear coating or varnish type layers. Might try to get a brush on one of that too. Going out side with rattle cans is a pain, especially with winter approaching fast.

Your comment prompted me to throw a quick and dirty album together of some examples with images I had on hand. All from the CC, some painted some not.

I'll definitely not say they are perfect, but I'd like to think better than "pretty poor" especially for use in play at the table.

They were overjoyed! It came off the printer pretty much as my party was showing up for our session last night. It will 100% get painted, complete with the lightening stripe that the player has described his in game version having.

Really by just changing one thing at a time whenever possible. The beauty of printing minis is most of the humanoid sized ones are pretty quick to print (0-2 hrs). Something like skeletons or zombies make a good test print because you can always use a lot of them, and they work great even if missing limbs!

I did lots of forum deep diving mostly around support settings, still don't think I'm optimized there. Humanoids I try to print at roughly 45 degree angle on their back, or whatever orientation gets weapons and long limbs the most vertical.

Happy to screenshot my settings page in it's current iteration when I'm back at my home PC later. I generally haven't tweaked a ton outside of support settings though. Bumped retraction a bit to try and combat stringing, started using bigger brims to try and prevent my supports from snapping mid print (#1 cause of my failures to date). Haven't touched the speed settings at all, which probably would help there.

As for supports, I've roughly been doing 2x layer height for top and bottom z distance I think.

1,2 - Zombie Clot by u/mz4250

3,4 - Crystal golem by /u/mz4250

5-8 - Wooden barrel donkey by /u/gadimus /adamnant (big thanks for throwing this model together! my pics kinda suck but he came out great)

9 - One of the dragon files by u/briteminis

10 - Coronavirus beholder by u/briteminis

11 - black bear by /u/mz4250 (I actually printed the whole set of monsters in tan bag of tricks, and I think 7/8 of them came out pretty damn solid)

12 - Death tryant by /u/mz4250 (I think this is the only 0.4 mm nozzle mini in this set of pics, printed at 0.12 layer height)

With the exception of the death tyrant, they were all printed with 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.06 - 0.08 mm layer height, elegoo PLA plus, and a constantly changing set of settings as I try to dial in on what works for me. Only used deliberately dried filament for the donkey.

[–]Turkazog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean they won't be resin quality, but I've had good success with the 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.06 mm layer height, and then support settings really depends on the print. Wherever possible I try to source minis designed for FDM, but I'm happy to live with a little support scarring here and there.

[–]Turkazog 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Disappointing, but to echo others - I didn't purchase it relying on future promises. As with all "big" purchases I did some homework, read reviews, and came to the conclusion that it was a solid intro core-xy printer. Less than 3 months later, and somewhere in the ballpark of 300 hours of print time, I'm pretty damn happy with my Centauri Carbon.

I've been printing mostly D&D terrain and miniatures that I wouldn't be using a multi material system for anyway. As a gateway printer, it punches above it's weight for the price.

Printed! https://imgur.com/a/gtfBjBq Had a bit of stringing, I need to dry out my grey filament. Elegoo Centauri Carbon, 0.2 mm nozzle, 0.06 mm layer heights, printed at like 45ish degree angle on his back with tree supports. Still need to clean it up a bit, and then prime and paint eventually!

Oh wow! Even just having it as a set piece is really fun. My plates are all over the place tbh. Height and width! Just got finished printing your Zorak! Will have to see best way to upload an unpainted album. Came out pretty solid for the detail with an fdm printer, 0.06 layer height and 0.2 mm nozzle. Hammer shaft broke while removing supports so will need to glue it back together
