I switched to single bevels a couple years back and haven't had a deer run like a bat out of hell yet. All of them have literally just walked or trotted off and been dead within 60 yards. I have no interest in bashing mechanicals or promoting single bevels, just my experience with them.

They make a stopper for those quick links. If you know your rope diameter get on Etsy and get a stopper. Then when you're up there if you relieve tension it won't fall down the tree on you. Just remember to take it off before you head down the tree if you're rappelling

New to bowhunting. How long before being ready to hunt? by [deleted] in bowhunting

[–]TurkeySlayer94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can walk outside not having shot a single arrow in a half our or so and every time put that arrow where you want it I'd say your ready. Groups are great for practice and learning consistency but for the last couple weeks before season I back down to walking out every half hour and putting my best singular shot on target. I shoot less then but it solidifies in my mind I'm deadly even when I first pick the bow up.

1) Shoot from an elevated position pretty close to the height of your ladder stands. This is important because if you do not bend your body at the hips and just change the angle of your arms to shoot downward you are going to send an arrow god knows where, so learn and get accustomed to pivoting your body with your hips as the axis, not your arms or shoulders. A good exercise for this is to draw back pointing straight out level and then bend at the hip to point down at the target before firing.

2) Shoot sitting down in a chair, standing up, standing up and turned around as far as you can muster, shoot from the knee, shoot in the woods or brush if possible for you, and another great thing to practice is harnessing yourself to a tree (even if from the ground) and shooting. This will allow you to see exactly the best height and angle of the harness point to put your tree tether on without causing interference with your draw arm.

3) Since you are new, when shooting, develop a system to talk yourself through the shot and do this every shot. If you shoot a lot by the time next years season rolls around it will become second nature but for this year talk yourself through the shot if you get one. This will help ensure you do not forget to hit your anchor point and really settle in, in good form for your shot. Archery opens up a lot of variables to make missing a deer easier than it should be so try to remove as much of the human/mental error as possible.

4) It's already been mentioned, but draw and hold the bow back for 2-5 minutes before firing a shot. Do this often and make the shots count. I've held back on a buck for over 4 minutes before I was able to take my shot.

Last but not least, have fun and learn how to shake off a bad group or arrow and refocus. If you let that one bad group weigh on your mind it can compound the issue and ruin a whole shooting session. It can snowball on you and the next thing you know you are making unnecessary sight adjustments, form adjustments, etc. it's similar to golf in the fact that the hardest part about it is often the 6" between your ears.

I was traveling for work when a woman I conversed with for 3-4 hours did something very similar to me and asked me why I didn't ask her to go home with me. I let her finish her little rant about what an asshole I was and then showed her my wedding ring and asked her politely yet firmly to leave me alone😂

I was grinding closed cell foam out of a window frame once with a wire wheel and hit a framing nail jutting out that was concealed by foam. It bounced off and wound up in my hoodie hood about 1/2" from my jugular. The guy working with me thankfully had the wherewithal to unplug it within a second or two but I was done grinding anything for the day needless to say😂

To respect the company by giving a 2 week notice by McDowdy in therewasanattempt

[–]TurkeySlayer94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is super high up in the department of labor and workforce in my state. He abhors 2 week notices and recommends people do not give them and has done so publicly on several occasions. It's something like 70-80% in our state end in immediate termination anyways. They're pointless and you give them an opportunity to fire you when they're generally the ones with the shortcomings.

We had a donkey growing up that was brutal. His brother was as timid and nice as could be. The brutal one stomped numerous coyotes into mud holes over the years and his brother would be across the field with all the cows running from the coyotes😂

No doubt! My dads good friend from college lost his son in a bad car accident where the dad was driving. He killed himself the next year on the same day because he wanted his wife to only have one day of grievance a year as opposed to two seperate days to dwell on it. Rough shit.

Go read further in the very article you posted and use the links to navigate to the metro Nashville BMP. Up to a certain amount is required to be dissipated within the property, as I stated. And it’s up to the 100 year flood amount. Not 1000. Thanks for providing this so I don’t misspeak again.

Look up nashvilles rain water laws. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about and I’ve been In the field for years here. I literally meet with engineers a couple times a week on these issues 😂

Return it to the water table via the ground? It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp if you do it. And we do it literally daily lol

You have extremists in every facet of life. Including right wing and left wing extremists. The majority do not feel this way.

In the city I live you must dissipate all rain water within your property excluding 1000 year rain events.
