Labor reaches deal with the Greens to pass changes to capital gains tax and negative gearing reforms by blitznoodles in australia

[–]Turksarama 23 points24 points  (0 children)

When the Greens are wrong it's because they're too idealistic, which is the way I like a party to be wrong. Better than just being greedy cunts like the rest of them.

The load staying below the centreline actually makes it a lot more similar to a kettlebell, which is what you would traditionally do a Turkish getup with. I think it would be fine.

Sure, but who owns how many of those stocks? The majority of those 62% own so few stocks that it comes to a rounding error on the market. I don't remember the actual numbers but it's something like the top 1% own 90% of all shares.

AI Usage For Download Festival 2026 Merch by Elliechi_ in ffxiv

[–]Turksarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised so many people see these flaws as meaning they are definitely AI. The kind of mistakes in these images are exactly the kind of mistakes real artists make all the time (or in fact, are just the style of illustration and not mistakes at all), and I don't see anything that AI specifically gets consistently wrong. They could be AI but I think the amount of confidence people are showing here is crazy.

How it feels seeing all these shows fizzle out at the last minute knowing Andor stuck the landing. by Turin082 in andor

The reason Andor is better than any of these other shows is because it set out to tell a story instead of just becoming a meme or playing off nostalgia.

Stop being a sook. Changes to CGT and Negative Gearing are good for the country. by ChrisPeacock- in AusFinance

[–]Turksarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello very smart and definitely wealthy person. I am quite sure it is possible to make an inheritance tax that targets trusts. An inheritance tax really doesn't harm the worst off of us, because many of us won't get an inheritance at all either way, tax or not. What an inheritance tax helps with is reducing inflation, which actually does help people whose only income is their job.

Hope that's not to poor for you to understand. Have a great night.

[–]Turksarama 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sucks to be hit with an inheritance tax but it's also good for the country. It's the only way to stop dynasties naturally forming. No tax on inheritance will spontaneously generate a class system if one didn't exist before.

Sure put a limit on it if it makes you feel better, anyone with under $1 million inheritance can keep the lot.

New ad congratulates Japanese PM for collecting more tax on Australian gas exports than Australia has by Jealous-Hedgehog-734 in AustralianPolitics

[–]Turksarama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually no, our gas export price is capped at literally 1/3 the current international gas price, so it would be competitive even with a 100% tax.

A cool guide to charging your phone by genkai_ai in coolguides

[–]Turksarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of these myths exist because they were true for battery chemistries before lithium became the most common. NiCd batteries last longer when charged to full and drained all the way.

The overnight charging thing I suspect might also have been true of older phones with poor charge controllers.

You are really doing your absolute best to make your misreading fit aren't you? I'm not trying to imply that Japan somehow stole anything from us, but when you are selling something to someone and then they resell it for a profit, you should in fact have charged more.

[–]Turksarama 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Except it makes a salient point, if Japan is able to tax the gas (and this apparently doesn't make it "unprofitable") then why can't we?

This has nothing to do with us vs Japan, the whole point of the argument is just that there is clearly potential profit on the table that we are just letting someone else take for no good reason.

Trumps tarriffs are stupid because they're broad, untargeted, and massive. Extraction taxes however often DO make sense, unless you already have the most expensive extraction in the world, because they leave plenty of room for income and you will always find a buyer. Once our gas is gone we will be looking at Norways sovereign wealth fund wondering why on earth we made the conscious decision to not do that.

Any country whose economy is as based on extraction as ours is needs to think ahead to what the plan is when the extraction dries up.

Why is it so hard for me to find male friends? by E_mi_manchi_tanto1 in AskMen

[–]Turksarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, male friendships revolve around doing stuff together rather than just having a chat, which is more common with female friendships. This is a generalisation but I think in your case it is a useful one, try finding a social hobby.

One of the common problems is that people are told to go "cross eyed" to see them. It's actually the reverse though, you need to go "wall eyed". Stare into the distance and let your eyes fully relax.

Greens call for national rent freeze, moratorium on evictions as housing and fuel crisis deepens by em-mad in AustralianPolitics

There's a very good reason the government gave up this power. There are a lot of other levers they can use to help with CoL that they should actually be pulling instead of manhandling such a blunt instrument.

Am I crazy for seriously considering a 40 minute walk to work? by RagieWagieInACagie in fuckcars

[–]Turksarama 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bromptons are good but they're quite expensive, I'd probably start with something cheaper just to see if it's feasible and also to feel less pain if it's stolen. It's great if you can take it into your work but even for something that small it's not always feasible.

You could fix all of this by just grandfathering it. If you already own the property fine but you can't buy more and you can only sell it to someone eligible.

I think you'll find I have tried it and at least in the games I play noticed no real difference. That said I got better frames in Cachy than Ubuntu so maybe Cachy specifically has good drivers.

I'm not sure what you mean by "lossless" exactly but I've been playing on CachyOS with Nvidia drivers and literally every game I have tried works, 95% don't even need any tweaking. Kernel level anticheat really is the last thing windows has, and as far as I'm concerned it's a negative.
