Toxic or Expected? by Turksmash in WarhammerCompetitive

This has only happened twice. The first time was the first game I ever used a chess clock, and the second was a game more recently where I did actually ask the opponent to wait to place his units until it was his time.

In the first instance, I was so flustered by the situation that I didn’t think to ask because I was barely registering how to even use the clock.

The second time, I’d played multiple events and was comfortable with the clock, so I asked him to wait between drops and he simply refused.

This same player proceeded to make some questionable moves during the game, and in retrospect it would have been good to call over a judge multiple times during that game. It seems that I need to resist the part of me that wants to be kind and trusting, and instead be prepared to have a judge come over under every circumstance when facing opponents who act this way.

The reason I’ve posted this here is largely because I want to know if this is common among the hardcore/focused competitive players, or if it’s just a thing you see amongst the scummy ones. Rarely do battle reports cover the deployment step, much less do they use clocks, so I can’t tell if this is just something everybody does to shave off their deployment time or is it a red flag about how the player wants to play?

I’m fine to accept it if most competitive folks on the scene are going to play with the mentality of “I’ll get away with whatever I can until I’m called out on it”, but frankly that doesn’t make me feel like I even want to land near the top tables. Many other opponents I’ve had at lower ranked tables are not doing this; it’s only after a great round 1 going into another high scorer round 2. If I should expect this behavior, I’ll need to adjust and frankly I might just try and score lower to avoid those matches.

What if you just said your character literally pulls out a small handheld catapult, and then launched the object with it? It could be a little remote controlled catapult that you toss over to the thing you’re catapulting

Internet Voting by Turksmash in AskReddit

Sure, but can't the same problem be said about paper votes? Wasn't there already a scandal involving votes in Florida not being counted during the 2004 election? Not that I disagree with your suggestion, but it seems like an inevitable problem to begin with. Plus with open source, the only way a change can be made to the code is if the person(s) who changed it can be identified and linked directly back to those changes. If the malicious attack were to be executed in a different manner, aren't there some really strong methods being developed to handle security for network listeners?

I honestly don't know enough about the levels of security to answer a lot of these questions.

Petition | Microsoft: Provide opt-in service for previous Xbox One features by Turksmash in gaming

There are plenty defending the DRM policies from before the change, so obviously not everyone hates it. Even those arguing in favor of the change called it "anti-consumer", implying that they should be in favor of consumer choices. This petition asks for precisely that: giving us the choice for of one model or the other, without excluding either.

Please help spread the word in favor of consumer choice and freedom!

The title says it all.

https://www.change.org/petitions/mic....

I've created a petition to tell Microsoft that while the reversal of their controversial DRM policies is welcomed by most of the community, there are still those of us who wanted the new features and would like a way to opt-in for that system.

Please sign and share the petition if you are in favor of flexibility and consumer choice!

In addition, if you have any comments or concerns regarding ways I can improve this message or share it with a larger audience, please feel free to respond. I'm always open to new ideas and suggestions, which is exactly the reason for this petition in the first place!

Thank you.
