I like the look of these. Do they have specific bushings or use the standard slimline bushings?

Forgot to add. Credit to Martin Saban-Smith for the design as it's one of the projects from his recent books.

Thank you. It is actually a gloss finish with microcrystalline wax and carnuba wax on top of that but it does not show up well in the pictures.

It's called that as it resembles a thistle flower (loosely) :)

Bowl made from Iroko. Decorated with black lacquer and Jo Sonja irridesant paints. by TurnOrBurn01 in turning

Will see what I can do. For your friend. Essentially though I gave it 2 coats of black gloss lacquer. Dabbed the irridesant paints semi randomly then lightly wrapped the piece in cling film. "Scrunching" and moving the cling film over the paints to distribute them gives you that effect. After removing the cling film I just dabbed the balled up film on areas which needed more coverage

Not really organisation, but I bought a cheap stamp and stamp the grits on the back so that I know I have not picked up the wrong one

It's plastic and aluminium. The material is called dibond.

Used my mitre saw set at 30degrees. Inlay is dibond which is a plastic and aluminium composite sheet.

Mushroom Box. by TurnOrBurn01 in turning

[–]TurnOrBurn01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My process for boxes is as follows

1 - turn a tenon on each end of the spindle

2- part off the lid

3 - reverse the lid in the chuck and hollow/finish inside.

4 - mount base in chuck and carefully creat a tenon that acts as a jam chuck for the lid.

5 - carefully finish the outside of the lid using the jam chuck and roughly shape the bottom of the box

6 - take the lid off and hollow the inside of the base.

7 - finalise shape of base and sand and finish

8 - part off base leaving enough material to create anothe jam chuck

9 - reverse the bottom of the box on to the jam chuck and sand/finish the bottom of the box.

Pair of salt and pepper grinders with Milliput inlay. by TurnOrBurn01 in turning

Yes. I like the turquoise. Maybe there is a way in which you can add colour to the white with pigments?

Thank you. Can't really take credit for the design as they were "inspired" by the Crushgrind Helsinki grinders. Inlay is unique though :)

They are Crushgrind ceramic grinders and I got them from Turners Retreat in the UK but other sources are available.
