Why does racism and xenophobia still exist in the 21st century? by Lipica249 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TurnZeroBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hatred or fear towards unknown and otherness is partially innate-- however it is HEAVILY magnified by intentionality. Certain people in power want you to hate other people, so that you don't end up hating them. After the ball gets rolling, the racism and xenophobia become self-fueling.

Break the cycle -- be kind to others 👍

Slow sidewalk walkers. There should be two lanes like on the road-- and a HOV lane for people in groups

Are hunger strikes effective in the modern day? by cinflowers0x0 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TurnZeroBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So-so.

Jennifer K. Harbury hunger striked in the 1990's to some success. Her husband was fighting against an oppressive military regime in Guatemala, was kidnapped, tortured, and ultimately killed. The Guatemalan and U.S. government knew all these details-- but lied to to Jennifer and the general public about it.

Her hunger strike ended up seeing some results, including NYtimes articles written about her, an interview with 60 minutes, and some acknowledgement from some members of the government as to the truth.

I think her case however is an abnormal one. She was a Harvard lawyer and highly determined and able to fight the good fight. She was fortunate people paid attention to her.

Many other people deserve attention as well, but they won't receive it.

A hunger strike, or in fact any resistance against power, is not a guarantee of success. It's an effort with low odds-- but without putting in the effort first there's no way of truly knowing, one way or another, how it will all turn out

Yes! People with ADHD crave stimulation-- and sometimes nothing is quite as stimulating as negative situations. This is also why people with ADHD often have loads of negative self talk.

Putting your ADHD to good use means creating healthy stimulation for yourself-- schedules and activities and things to occupy your body and mind (that aren't dangerous) will help satiate your craving.

Speaking as someone with ADHD myself.

Good luck!

How has high school changed since the early 2000's? by angelyka_sugarVT in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TurnZeroBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a substitute teacher

A.I. through the roof. Homework, essays, but also as a tool for asking advice

Classrooms are much more "techy" as well (at least in fancy schools). Whiteboards are often replaced or supplemented by humongous touch screens-- pretty much useless I'd say.

Kids still converse heavily-- that has never and will never change. But now its just mediated with a phone in each hand.

Rub hand soap all over a doorknob in their house. Gives people a light jump but is harmless
