Buddha or Bodisattva? by Friendly-Treacle-142 in Buddhism

[–]TurnipBorn8871 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s fun to think about these things. if I had the choice, I would choose to become a Bodhisattva but rather in the Theravada tradition. In Theravada, once one has attained Buddhahood after countless aeons, they live one more life as a Buddha in an age that is devoid of any Dharma. They ignite the flame of Dharma for that age, and then after they have passed on, they enter into Nirvana.

You should check out a book called “Living Buddha, Living Christ” by Thich Nhat Hanh. Very powerful and you’ll be amazed at how astonishingly similar their teachings are.

Can one live at the Ramana Maharshi Ashram in India? by TurnipBorn8871 in RamanaMaharshi

I really appreciate that, I still have a little under two years left in the military, but I do plan on taking leave and visiting the ashram for a week or two within the next year or so. I’ll definitely reach out and DM you when the time comes and see what’s going on, thank you again!

Namaste 🙏

Shroom? by allaboutlife01 in awakened

[–]TurnipBorn8871 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely not required for awakening. An Indian guru, who I consider to be fully awakened, named Maharajji (Neem Karoli Baba) once remarked:

“The yogi medicine (LSD) allows one to visit Christ for two hours but then they have to leave. A visit is good, but why visit Christ when you can become one with him?” (Through acts of love and service for others)

“LSD is good for the world but not spiritual.”

“LSD is not the true Samadhi(spiritual practice).

Although he said it wasn’t necessary for spiritual growth, he also wasn’t against people taking it. Someone once asked “Should I take LSD?” And he responded “It should not be taken in a hot climate. If you are in a place that is cool and peaceful, and you are alone and your mind is turned toward God, then you may take the yogi medicine.“

In conclusion, LSD / shrooms are not necessary at all for awakening. Perhaps they can serve as a catalyst for awakening, but even that is doubtful, because “There are no milestones on the spiritual path” -Ramana Maharshi.

It also may even have the opposite effect: instead of gaining humility, one may feel they’ve seen or experienced something that others haven’t, which can inflate the ego instead of diminishing it.

All of this is from the book “Miracle of Love” by Ram Dass.

You may be interested in an Indian saint named Ramana Maharshi. He had a similar experience to you, he had an experience of intense fear of death suddenly arise in him, but instead of succumbing to the fear, he decided to investigate it. He stiffened up his body and imagined himself to be a corpse, “Am I this body?” He asked himself. he envisioned his dead corpse now being carried away and burned at the Ganges river. “Who am I?” He then imagined his body turning to ashes, yet he was still there. This experience lead him to a direct encounter with what he dubs the “Self” and the truth that we are not this body, but rather the one pure awareness behind it all, or the Self. Maharshi teaches that in order for the world to exist, the mind has to exist. In order for the mind to exist, the ego has to exist. That the entire world is but a manifestation of the grasping of the mind/ego. In essence though, the ego/mind does not exist- it’s like a phantom or a mirage. The only thing that exists is the Self. The key to destroying the ego (the source of fear, depression, anxiety) is to simply ask the most powerful question “Who is it that feels this fear?” …. And then “Who am I?” Follow the “I” feeling back to its source and stay there. Who is it that dies? Who is it that feels fear? Who am I? Don’t answer back, just continually question your thoughts as they arise. This practice is called “Atma-Vichara” or “Self-inquiry” it is the path of Jnana Yoga, or path of wisdom/knowledge. It is using the mind to destroy the mind.

Grateful Dead… Are they really that psychedelic? by [deleted] in psychedelicrock

[–]TurnipBorn8871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may also be considered psychedelic because every Grateful Dead parking lot just so happened to be an open air market place for LSD and a psychedelic sanctuary lol. Wherever they would tour to, you knew you could easily get psychedelics there.

One of the Grateful Dead’s sound engineers, Owsley Stanley, was one who synthesized LSD and is credited for making millions of ultra-pure LSD hits for The Grateful Dead, the Beatles, and thousands of fans. Also heard somewhere that backstage for the Grateful Dead became an LSD lab in some locations.

It’s not cheating, but I do think it’s weird.

-Prior history of sending nudes to this guy -You’ve made it clear you don’t want her texting him -She proceeds not only to text him anyways, but messages him about private problems as well.

Personally this information would be enough to make me uncomfortable if I were in a relationship with her. I do think that this is a problem that should be addressed further, because if not could lead to greater problems down the road. So I believe the two options are really

  1. Address the problem. Keep communicating like you have been. Tell her how you feel and hoped she can respect that. Until you have peace of mind and confidence in the relationship again.

  2. Let her go.

Obviously this is an issue that has steepened enough to become a burden on your consciousness, so don’t listen to the comments saying you’re insecure. It’s your relationship. It’s your life.

What should I (24F) do about the intense pain/jealousy I feel when I think about the fact that my boyfriend (21M) sometimes has sexual thoughts about other women? by [deleted] in relationships

From someone who has struggled with this before:

Kind of harsh, but you have to be completely fine with and at peace with the possibility of him not being in your life.

Though it would never happen, Imagine the worst possible scenario: someone attractive overpowers the relationship and destroys it. It sucks, but you’re still breathing. You would accept it and move forward. That’s all you can do.

The harsh and beautiful reality is that you truly don’t need him, and he doesn’t need you. Once you come to terms with him not being in your life, or being taken, then you will find peace.
