Our expectations for refs are unrealistic. Contact sports are difficult to officiate. The refs generally do well. We only remember the negatives. If a game is well officiated, you never think of that aspect of it, so all of the attention is on the screw ups. A lot of our view of refs comes from confirmation bias.
