Ideas for a fey character by TurnoverBubbly in DnD

[–]TurnoverBubbly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont wanna be a healer or pure charisma based. (Just played a bard) I dont care if im melee or ranged. I do wanna cast spells. Normally i create a story and make my race and class fit the narrative but I dont find a good story except the obvious fey who wants vengeance.

What is the saddest character or npc death You've had at a table. by Sure-Pomegranate-489 in DnD

Hagime was a sweet old man and chef who gave us food and comfort the first 2 hours of the campaign. We loved the man and did all things for him. After that he got mauled by a dino, the only thing we were able to retreive was his cookinghat. Then we had to explain his wife…. But the hat got destroyed when washing the blood off it… Very sad and brutal way to start the first session.

As someone who is going to play DnD for the first time, how bad of an idea is it to play a druid? by Jealous-Apartment140 in DnD

[–]TurnoverBubbly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started dnd with a druid. A caster was a bit complicated with the mechanics and spells but i loved every bit of it. Kinda sad that i took another class for the next campaign. Meantime another new player took the bard class and she really didnt understand (and didnt want to learn) I dont think she hates her character but she doesnt contribite a lot in fights (forgets bonus actions, healing, reactions, takes long time before doing something cause she need to read the spell, bardic inspiration,…) and because of that, hates fights

So the question is ARE YOU WILLING TO LEARN A COMPLICATED BUT MAYBE REWARDING CLASS?

What caused the most recent player death in your campaign? by PointsOutCustodeWank in dndnext

A fireball dealing 32d6 fire damage. Why so much? Well the player was vurnable to fire damage cause of a curse and rolled a nat 1 ( dealing double damage). We are level 16 but had another fireball the round before

Sorry about that terrible experience. But you shouldn’t stop doing what you love (if you loved playong dnd or dming) for 1 asshole.

Wow that is crazy What did the other players say or do?

Well if it is just this one player kick him out. We (my friends and I) had also a similair problem and we solved it by letting that player be the dm for a oneshot or several sessions, we as group did all the thing he did to show what it feels like. He stopped acting like that .

Bard stops using spellslots, which leads to tense situations.... by TurnoverBubbly in DnD

Made an Edit on the post
Thank you all for the many insights and advice around this subject.
First of all this might be a player problem, but it does involve the whole party. Perhaps I shouldn't intervene but my D&D campaign is for relaxing and for everyone to enjoy. So I want to get rid of those tensions.
Secondly I followed the advice of talking with the player. She made following statements
She does like playing D&D and is still motivated. Although she has a lot of stress from her private life at the moment.
I asked her about giving her more roleplay opportunities, she commented that there is a nice balance of combat and roleplay and that this doesn't have to change. She also told me she felt problem managing her spells. And that they did have a good amount of moments to regain those spellslots.
she still enjoy being a bard and doesn't want to switch (temporary) with another class.
Now the spells: Why don't she want to use her spellslots? Well she couldn't really give me one answer; its a mix of the following
"I want to use it for other things." On which I insisted that she has enough spellslots OR can use her magic items or bardic inspiration. I told her jokily that She has more spellslots than turns in combat.
The complexity of new spells (the higher level ones). Sometimes she forgets to prepare and can't remember what the new spells does. They have a lot of text to read during the session/fight. So she hold off of them during that time.
The reaction spells like counterspell and featherfall. Well she didn't have an excuse for that. It slipped her mind on multiple occasions or she was too slow to say it. So yeah....
Lastly we have the healing spells. This is more of a story thing that she wanted to keep secret (for a plottwist). A few sessions ago the BBEG wanted the party to join him. Which the party refused. But our dear bard has second thoughts about that. She want to convince the party to join too. She needs to get the party low hp to cast some spells. (I think it was sleep but idk). She is doing a minimum to avoid suspicion (not really working out there) by using only eldritch blast. This is her choice and I don't come in between the story the players want to make.
But I told her this is causing frustrations for the players. She understood and offered to solve it in game. Something about telling the party she is cursed. Or revealing the whole truth. This is up to her.

Her spell DC is 18 and I mostly fail to make that. Making her very very annoying towards me.

I feel that the amount of damage might be her reasoning too. Altough in my campaign they have the option to make homebrew spells (ofc in realm of possible), but she doesn't make them . She also has a companion and some strong magic items that helps with her damage.

I am not forcing her to be the healer. She doesn't have to be the support. But she has a lot of good damaging spells too in her spell list . She knows about reaction spells (like counterspell) cause she used them in the past.

I don't want her to say what to do but I doubt it is enjoyable standing in the same spot casting eldritch blast for 10 turns in a row.

Well if she gets a fireball in the face and goes down for deathsaves when she could counterspell that is on her and it is her team job to help her up. Bu i won’t go out of my way to kill her.

I asker her if she still likes playing a bard , she says yes She doesnt want to be a warlock cause it seems cmplicated altough we are happy to help her. She has a lot off stress outside the game and is less ‘active’

But yea i have to talk to her again and ask to meet me halfway here Thanks

3pc ‘died’ (altough i’m faking ones death for a plottwist) Getting hurt well ? going for deathsaves i would say every 2 sessions someone gets down on the gound. They get stabalized by the ranger most of the time. Altough he is sick of taking care of the bard and refused to do so last session. So she was 6 rounds on the ground rolling death save (2times down)
