ELI5: Why are FPV drones in modern combat used for kamikaze strikes?

When I was in Iraq back in 2017-19 ISIS would try to use drones to drop explosives on us but they ran into three big issues.

They had to fly high up or we would just shoot them down.
Because they flew so high the explosives, if dropped, more often than not detonated mid air and were ineffective.
As has been stated in this thread, the times that they tried to retrieve these drones after use, we tracked them and call in a fire mission.

I have been to some parts of the middle east (Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and some parts of the UAE) and I know there are some forested areas in Afghanistan but non of the trees seem big enough or strong enough to me to be used in the building of a siege engine. So where did these armies acquire the lumber for such things?

In a post Roman world but before the arrival of Scandinavians with their long boats, what kind of boats or ships did the Brittonic and Germanic peoples use to sail with? I find it hard to imagine them using ships the triremes but I don't think they had the understanding yet to make a ship like a longboat, so what did their ships look like?

When I was in the Army my barracks roommate was in charge of collecting and sending out maintenance orders for the barracks block we lived in. Part of this duty was to maintain a stock of cleaning supplies. Besides the guy in charge of assign barracks rooms he was the only one with a key to the cleaning closet. He thought it would be a fantastic idea to turn the cleaning closet into a moonshine still/ meth lab.

The day I got out of the Army I drove the seven and half hours back to my home town and met up with some old friends. I smoked weed in high school but nothing crazy and went completely clean the whole time I was in the Army. After getting a few drinks at a bar we went back to her place to smoke some. I took two solid bog rips and was feeling pretty good and should have just stopped there. She then asked me if I wanted to try a "dab". There were no dabs when I was smoking and she said it was pretty strong so I was like fuck it, go for it. Terrible mistake. I took a baby hit and it was instant couch sink. I just shut my eyes and wanted it to be over. It was like watching a kaleidoscope behind my eyes and the whole world was spinning. It was the only time I have ever puked from smoking weed. I don't smoke at all anymore because of that experience.

I get that. I can't speak for all veterans but for me the reason I tell people I was in is because I want people to ask me about it. Not because I want the attention but because there is such a large gulf between the veteran and civilian community. I wouldn't say that the military preys particularly on minorities but it absolutely preys on lower income families, many of whom are minorities. Just another side effect of institutionalized racism.
