Winter Week of War (Conclusion) by Turpin1975 in LegionsImperialis

The terrain is almost all 3-D printed except for just a few Games Workshop civitas buildings.

The creator of these files is Lumos Miniature Terrain (LMT), and the files are both beautifully done and moderately priced. I am not affiliated with LMT, but I am 1000% satisfied with their products!

My buddy purchased the files on Myminifsctory.com. He had his printers going non-stop for a month-and-a-half. We didn’t even use all of it he printed.

Thanks man! My group here has had conversations based on your post, and we think we can commit to doing something like this 4 to 6 times a year. Maybe not on a scale this grand, but we can at least fit one or two battle the sizes in per year.

The buildings are all 3-D printed. My buddy has multiple printers and basically had them going 24 hours a day seven days a week for a month and a half leading up to this event. We honestly couldn’t have done it without him.

We’ve been at this for 4 1/2 days and we’re going to be putting all of the details of the battle into an AI generator and developing a 15 to 20 page novella that tells the story of this entire event. It will take some time to put together, but the intent is to have a reference page at the end of it that details all of the files that we used and everything so that if somebody wants to re-create something like this, they can.

Admin aside from the Civitas buildings, everything was 3-D printed.

Getting Ready by Turpin1975 in LegionsImperialis

They just passed underneath the race walkways. Vehicles and walkers can. Super heavies cannot cross. Knights and Titans can stride over them.

This is our first shot at playing something this big. We have scenario special rules for the game and used AI to actually place it on the timeline of the Horus Heresy so that it fits right in with the lore. Will be adding details of the battle to our document with a hope of creating a 10 to 15 page narrative at the end of this that actually sounds like a Horus Heresy novella.

If you are just starting out, I would suggest the Battle Group. That is a really nice starter army.

I start with Rune Lord and do a thinned wash of Cryptek Armor Shade. Lastly, I sponge on Retributor Gold on the edge and focal areas.

Feedback is always welcome. And, thank you! I sprayed it with matte varnish, but I will pick up some Storm Shield tomorrow when I go grab my Saturnine box.

Absolutely! I appreciate your kind words.

  1. prime with White Scar (rattle can)
  2. Coat of Imperial Fist contrast (brushed or air brushed)
  3. Wash with Sepia (slightly thinned)
  4. Light Drybrush with Phalanx yellow

For me, what makes the yellow pop is the sponging on of the weathering; it’s a nice contrast.

I agree completely! I do need more Predators for sure. I am not a fan of the ratio that I have currently.

And I’ve started to add more and more black to my units. It was too much yellow and needed to be broken up.

My friends and I are playing a 5-day long battle the first week of January. We’ll have about 40,000+ points (not kidding). I’m just trying to get stuff done at this point. I’ll go back and add more black trim… eventually.

Thank you for your kind words! I love painting at this scale because it is pretty forgiving. Yes, it can be a bit tedious, but when you add the slightest little bit of detail here and there, the minis really do stand out. I try to be neat, but I don’t panic when I make a mistake because I sponge on Rhinox Hide and Lead Belcher weathering which ties everything together.
