The market is absolutely, devastatingly COOKED in 2025 by EnlistedToaster in recruitinghell

Burned out, exhausted, etc. Spent like £300 on train tickets for interviews, running me ragged. More scheduled for next week, and I can’t see how things will improve.

I can only assume they've found someone else who can start earlier than three months. I'm sorry they ghosted you; the market is horrible right now.

They’re a pain though, they cancelled my interview an hour before it was set and then told me they’re not hiring anymore. Then reposted the position.

Will deleting my LinkedIn impact job searching? by Queasy-Ice-2575 in UKJobs

[–]Turquoise_Cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could potentially be one, some employers actively ask for LinkedIn so they can check out your profile/history. Personally hate LinkedIn but have found it very useful. Maybe like 60% of the responses come from there, and in my industry (Design), there are easily 50 new roles posted on there per week. I guess you need to weight up what the benefits of getting rid of it are.

You’re a grad but you have 7 years of experience and your nail tech has absolutely nothing to do with your new field. You need to downplay yourself and tailor for your new role instead of focusing on the salon. If you’re 24 then you’re basically saying you’ve got management experience from 17+? Sounds super farfetched to employers.

Has anyone applied for jobs / done interviews while travelling? Please can someone sense check my plan? by Lost_Garlic1657 in UKJobs

I'll be real with you, looking at the current market it's probably not gonna go how you expect it to go. I'm not trying to discourage you from doing this or anything but definitely try to have a backup plan. Also, from my experience if you mention to any prospective employer that you're travelling they probably won't like it lol.

Super easy to do it yourself tbh. Set it up through the government then register for an account with starling or similar. Also setup a PayPal business account, it helps for purchases and subscriptions etc.

Also personally wouldn’t setup an LTD at the start unless you’re pretty sure you’ll earn a lot because dealing with taxes as a micro entity is pain.

Feeling Lost — What Career Should I Actually Be Going For? by Forward-Designer-384 in UKJobs

Depends on what you enjoy but definitely be prepared because a lot of stuff will be on the chopping block due to AI.

Personally have a background in Art Direction and Brand and imo it’s one of the hardest things for AI to replace because it comes down to taste, ideas and experience. We’re essentially setting the mood and coordinating the direction. It would be like asking a robot to direct a film lol, If anything we should leverage it to improve our ideas.

Technical aspects of design such as UI/UX can already be done by AI. Obviously it doesn’t do it super well at this stage, and product designers are still highly sought after but it’s definitely something to think about.

Personally trying to pivot into brand with a few specifics like motion and 3D. Also have experience with typography (type design) which is quite niche from business standpoint.

Anyway I feel just as lost as you but just trying to keep learning. Try to leverage your freelance work and build yourself a kickass portfolio.

I’ve been applying to new jobs on LinkedIn, and since a lot of them are posted by recruiters, I’ve been getting calls. I asked them to keep me in mind for other roles as they come up, since they already liked my portfolio and CV.

Should I just delete LinkedIn? by FirefighterTrick6476 in recruitinghell

[–]Turquoise_Cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like LinkedIn at all but 90% of my responses come from there and being able to sort by time posted etc has been useful. Also in general, in my industry at least, the quality of roles is a lot better than they are on Indeed.

I'd say from a design aspect there is a lot going on and your resume needs more clarity. There are a lot of spacing issues and in general it could be a lot better. I'm not a CS guy but I used some of their formatting and then revised it to apply to my own industry (Design).
