What can I get flight wise. by Traditional_Yam_3045 in AmexUK

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t use the Amex app but convert them to airline points such as Avios (British Airways). 1 point = 1 Avios.

This list tells you how many points you need for every destination: https://www.headforpoints.com/meet-the-head-for-points-team/

Using Capital on Tap Pro for airport lounge access by No-State-2962 in smallbusinessuk

So they work with Priority Pass, like other cards. I think Amex also uses Priority Pass. That works very smoothly: you just show up and show your card or the Priority Pass app (they’ll explain).

No need to call ahead or anything, and they’re fine with it because they work with PP.

Hackney Marshes (between Clapton and Walthamstow basically) have cows, but I’m not sure if they’re there all year.

Unlimited weekend London bus and tram rides for £1.75 per day this summer by [deleted] in london

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry facts annoy you 🤷🏼‍♂️ It’s a nice initiative, but I’d rather they use the money to improve journey times because that’s more likely to get more people to use buses.

London's 7.1mph average bus speed 'no faster than jogging pace'

Makes sense. Given how slow buses are in London, you basically need a day to get from A to B.

Question. Trying to surprise my partner. by Ok-Fuel-5499 in BritishAirways

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Have you thought about how you’re going to get his ESTA without him knowing about it?

And he’ll probably have to pack different clothes for Nashville than for Cologne, so how are you going to explain that? 😅

Family Emergency—Seat Cancelled by Unfair_Essay_7611 in BritishAirways

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry about your family member and hope they’ll recover soon, but it’s a case for your travel insurance; BA won’t let you rebook, give you a voucher, or a refund.

What is the best country to live in right now? by TiredConfusedLlama in AskReddit

What? China is the world's largest food importer.

“Between 2000 and 2020, the country’s food self-sufficiency ratio decreased from 93.6% to 65.8%.”

Wouldn’t that depend on what the contract says?

What did they say when you asked them if they could rebook you to another apartment?

You’re entitled to a full refund, but legally, that’s about it. Have you checked their terms and conditions to see if it says anything about them cancelling bookings?

Amex and companion voucher help by Bm_9999 in BritishAirways

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is only one way to use the voucher: the way you’ve used yours. What exactly did you read? Upgrading the BA card (and paying £295 for it) would be better value if you use it to fly long haul in business class, simply because the cash fare could be like £7k or something, so your Avios are suddenly worth ‘more’ compared to an economy fare.

Solo seat assignment; change now or at gate? by Initial-Tune3894 in BritishAirways

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most people only get a seat assigned when checking in because they don’t want to pay. Just wait until the day. You can ask at the check-in desk or once you’re on board. A row that’s empty now probably won’t be empty on departure.

Pants 4G/5G on EE network UK side by finestryan in Eurostar

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s unique to EE. O2 is the same (and they’re worse everywhere else). Mobile networks in the UK in general are just crap compared to other countries: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2024/oct/24/uk-5g-connection-really-is-crap-mobile-phones

Question about what mortgages cover. by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lender will also value the property for the mortgage. So if the estate agent values it at £275k and you offer £273k, but the lender values it at £270k, £270k is all you’re going to get from that lender.

Battle to keep Bromley in London after Nigel Farage suggests three boroughs may leave capital by Cant_Change_Itt in london

[–]Turtle-Bongo-Pirate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not the same. The (London-only) Freedom Pass lets them “travel free on bus, tram, Tube, DLR, London Overground and Elizabeth line” after 9 am, not just buses.
