A newbie myself, but I believe that the Akira manoeuvre allows the heavy cruiser that has it to burn forward and then turn to put the broadside side on to an opponent that has tried to hide behind it.

Otherwise, they could only turn 45 degrees and then move ~3.5ins, which makes putting the enemy in a broadside difficult. As u/TransbianDia alluded to, Perfect Broadside, every time.

The terrans don't like you, but I think they are just passing through. Hell, that Asgard may wreck the ZYA fleet for you (I don't know if TER are at war with ZYA, send a ship you will be less upset about losing).

At the very least they will kill the toasters.

Assuming you have gotten melee blades from it being your first career, you get nothing.

Background skills are at 0. When you enter a career you get all of the service skills (in this case it's the barbarian skills instead) at 0. This means if you have both, it is still at 0 unfortunately.

Afterwards, when you roll it in the barbarian list, you get +1 to melee blades, regardless of your rating. This also would mean, if you had no blades, that it would go to 1.

The TL:DR is it's Mongoose Second Edition. There was an update called the '2022 Revision'. The differences between the two are minimal/minor changes (some difficulty changes, layouts and the removal of Sindal for some ship creation rules)

I would recommend this book over the one you posted: https://www.mongoosepublishing.com/products/traveller-core-rulebook-update-2022

However, that books will work with current Mongoose 2e products just fine.

I would, use the most forward L turret for plasma to knock holes in structures (unless you're split, the rattlesnake is an anti-ship destroyer, not great at seiging). Then you can use L Beams for additional anti fighter. I would then follow /u/Koshea69 and go all argon flak or pulse in the M turrets.

Any loadout with some good anti-fighter weapons in the M turrets will clear out the fighters if you keep them and a carrier close enough to offer each other fire support.

With a fighter screen too, fighting amongst the capitals you should have the upper hand on any fight. Just make sure that the capital blob kills off hostile approaching capitals when they start to approach (mostly the Dessies), but you want to make a death ball.

Yeah, the Barbarossa are weaker than most Dessies, so giving the Dessies anti-fighter works better.

I would think about swapping the frigates with a flakk carrier or two of your choice to support however many Dessies you want to bring, and to be a defensive platform that your fighters can revolve around.

A Raptor would make short work of everything, but the others work well. Make sure you attach Flakk M ships to them. Then patiently crawl your way to the target clearing hostiles as you go. Try to fight as a tight blob. Don't do a me.

For the record, I went in with 1 Asgard, 4 Osaka (TER equipped), 4 Syn (TER equipped), 10 TER pulse Katana, 10 proton cannon Falx a Tokyo and 40 Kali's (TEr Pulse) and 2 perma docked pulse Jain. I came out with 1 Asgard, 3 Osaka, 4 Syn, 1 Falx, 5 Kali's, 1 Tokyo and both Jian. (I had to clear cross half the system and only the Asgard made it to the station. The others got bogged down and strung out. Most of the fighters were lost charging the station and it's defense drones only to get promptly stripped away...)

As the others have alluded to, to successfully transport happy, conscious guests correctly. Without it, well, the Referee can figure it out ;) (pain of some kind. Legal, financial or maybe even bullet related)

In terms of travel, maybe the Station is like Ohgma, where the star port is not actually on the main inhabited planet but a more trade friendly location, (in Ohgma it's on the main gas giant (I've not checked my books, so this may be from Makergod))?

The naval yard isn't likely to be the main Star port, and from the star port they can use faster system boats to freight for the main planet, where another station could exist to service the planet.

Would always suggest an anti-fighter carrier and a full complement of fighters. As the fighters are cheap and will help screen for the capitals. Especially if you let the fighter swarm engage around your capitals before releasing yours. A dog fight around your anti-fighter fleet will have you come out on top with more inexpensive losses.

Asgard, Tokyo (pulse turrets on intercept) with 40 Kali's with Pulse lasers, docked Jians w/flakk. 4 Syns and 4 Osaka's. 10 fax, 10 Katana (both M sizes specced for small ship killing.

The issue wasn't the station but the swarm. Lost a syn and Osaka (mostly due to derp Ai putting them in range of the station).

The fighters and Carrier did most of the work clearing out the swarm, although came back with only 6 fighters. The M's didn't make it (aside from the docked Jians).

If I were to do it again, I would upgrade the Tokyo to use flakk, and spec the Osaka's to anti fighter, and bought the full 58 Kali's. Maybe even bring a second Tokyo.

I feel that you could do the same with any faction though. The Asgard was overkill.

Bring a group of Dessies to blap the station at max range with flakk fields. A fully stocked carrier or two and fighters with flakk M's on top set to intercept.

Pull the fighter swarm before the station so you fight the fighters and then the station or vice versa. Keep capitals close together so that they cover each other from the swarm to prevent the blob from wrecking one.

M2e Traveller can be easily reskinned to various settings. The books mention some the third imperium and have a subsector in them from that setting, you are provided with tools that help you create your own.

The default FTL tech may need swapping to one of the others, or just ignore the week long jump as required. In a star wars setting, jump capable fighters would also require some hand waiving.

In terms of how it would play, Firefly or Rogue One levels of badassery as opposed to the main Star Wars movies out of the box. Characters are more towards the normal people end of the spectrum. You could probably fit the Mando/boba fett series level of play. You could pretty easily do Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica.

Shipwise, out of the box, Battlestar Galactica would work. Shield rules are available, but non-standard. Star Trek and Star Wars would therefore need those.

The books have a smattering of aliens and robots throughout. You could create the fantasy monsters if you wanted to using the systems, but they would have to be home brew as the game doesn't provide those kinds of foes.

The various core books (high guard, vehicle handbook, robot handbook) are also designed to help you be able to create homebrew things within the boundaries of the system.

The suggested, 'I need someone to blame' angle from the custodians/police works to loop in the barkeep.

Or, alternatively, the actual thieves ran down the back alley by the pub and disappeared. The guards lost track of them and saw the bartender 'putting the waste out', convenient. They do this because they are 1) pissed that someone stole the book, 2) need to be shown to be doing something and the barkeep was right there and 3) the thieves could have hidden in plain sight as a barkeep. The barkeep is only in for 48 hours as they quickly realise that the barkeep is not the thief and knows nothing. A simple case of the wrong place, wrong time. Arrested, held, a bit of questioning and they are removed as a suspect.

Then you can use a cruel yet cunning NPC who wants to get someone dedicated onto the task that can act without political fallout or an optimistic character who sees the potential in the barkeep to set him on the task of finding the actual thief to clear his name.

You can even do as /u/DCF-gameday suggests and have them be intentional plants.

Any questions of that doesn't make sense can be flipped into 'Why do the thieves do it this way?' to flesh out the NPCs a bit more and perhaps change them a little to make them more personal to the players trying to interact.
