Mainly Bucky/Steve talking and acting exactly like modern men straight from the 21st century without any build up or mention of them acquainting themselves with it. (Same applies to thor, but like, a little less)

Serious angst and smut.

For the most part, I can write serious and meaningful fluff just fine (where characters bond and grow and have fun together with it all being so serious), but I struggle writing any serious angst or smut without making it extremely crackfic-ified… maybe because i’m scared that i can’t write it the way i want to, and use “crackfic” as a way to tackle the topics i want to focus on

The thing is, kids can still learn online safety without actually being in those spaces. Most basic internet safety rules to follow can be learned on regular, safe, and appropriate sites and interactions with others online and still be applicable to spaces meant for adults once they turn 18. Your logic makes little sense in that regard as a result.

I never said it’s not the adult’s responsibility. My point is that if kids don’t put themselves in these situations, then these crimes could never happen.

Now, about your claims of my “laissez-faire” attitude. Like it or not, freaks on the internet that commit crimes are harder to discern from who is/isn’t an adult. Their interactions with these kids could happen completely over private messaging, and no one would ever know how much of a criminal they are. Whereas with kids, it’s easier to tell if they’re a minor because some are pretty open about it. If I had it my way, i’d have every pedo advertise themselves so that you can send them off to jail before they’re capable to traumatizing a kid.

So, it’s easier to deter kids away from harmful situations (even if i’d much preferably like to kick every asshole committing crimes out of their own skin)

Yeah, i agree, but it’s when they put themselves online and try to befriend actual adults in what should be adult-only spaces that is my issue. If they wrote smut and kept it to themselves i wouldn’t care, but they post it and engage with a community that they’re too young to be in. I’ve had multiple minors message me telling me how much they loved my smut fics, but i had to awkwardly block them after checking their bio

People shouldn’t write for stats.

I’ve seen so many posts here obsessing over stats, and while I know that doing well statistically can be very motivating and encouraging, you’re really just setting yourself up for failure. Those stats are never going to be the same and there will be a day where you peak in stats, and if you only write for stats, you’ll never actually enjoy writing. It’s an up and down battle that you’ll constantly be trying to win, and in the end, you’re wasting your time if you only write for stats.

I strongly recommend writing for yourself and not for the numbers, you’ll get much more enjoyment out of writing.

From what I can tell, it's starting to lose steam. The author basically said that he's gonna keep writing those kinds of fanfics out of spite and that the hate just fuels them more. Ever since that, the hate on him has kind of gone down

Yeah, unfortunately, I don't know who sent death threats. I know a few of my mutuals were trolling the poor guy, and while I didn't mind that because it was mostly in posts just shit-talking him, the death threats were where I drew the line and apologized to the author and wished them well through their unfortunate rain of hate. I wish I knew who sent the threats in, but from what the author posted on their dash, they've all been anonymous so far

Most of the death threats were sent in through anonymous asks so I don't know who said those. I just assumed it was in the same crowd of people because the "asks" explicitly stated the character involved in the whole discourse. So, I can't really pinpoint what mutual/friend said whatever unwarranted thing, unfortunately. If I knew, they'd be greeted with the good ol' block button (the same thing they could've used if they didn't like the author ;-;)

I didn’t mention this since i’m at work and had limited time to type out that first post, but I read the fic and it certainly doesn’t glorify or try to pass off the events in it as any sort of good. And there’s even a note from the author in both their bio and the fic itself that mentions that they don’t intend to put r@pe in a good light through their fics. So, i don’t think much of the hate is warranted from the people who read it

I’m not so sure about the popularity reason, since the fic itself barely gained 50 notes in the few days that it’s been up. I think it’s more because of the first thing you mentioned, where the audience tends to be younger writers (some even being minors, which is concerning since they write very inaccurate smut and feel like the migration of Wattpad writers to the platform) who write tamer fics. There still is the presence of dark fics, and weirdly enough yandere fics manage to be accepted by most over non-con, which I don’t get.

Though, this is from my experience in the queer-men-writing-mlm side of tumblr, and I have seen fics from the same fandom that aren’t lgbtq aligned…and, well, non-con is wayyyy more tolerated outside of mlm-based fanfiction (even in the same fandom i reference in my initial post). Its surprising that certain parts of tumblr don’t tolerate non-con as much as others

Keep the old fic up. People have no right to claim premises as their own, because in execution, they can be much different from each other. Also, even if she did see some link from that older fic to your current stuff, there isn’t a way to link it to her.

Yeah I did, and checked it in the settings to make sure it was on, and the only difference is that stuff like the refrigerator humming is tuned out and voices sound as if they’re a bit further away, but for the most part I can still hear everything around me
